Sarah’s Tips & Variations

Cut Swap: You can use ANY pork chop cut you want for this recipe; thick, thin, center cut, or boneless pork chops. Pork Loin even works well.

Best Apple Choice: Gala apples are my second choice for this recipe. They are firm and hold up well to the cooking time.

Apple Butter Swap: If you’d like to swap this out, you can use applesauce (which is where this recipe originated) or even try pumpkin butter.

Adding Additional Flavors: Add mustard for more tang and to cut down the sweetness. Worcestershire sauce is a great choice for doing that as well.

How to Store and Reheat

Place any remaining pork chops in an airtight container and keep in the fridge for up to 4 days. The leftovers make a nice quick meal the next day and can easily be reheated over medium heat until warmed throughout.

I’m giving this three stars only because the meat was delightfully tender. The flavor, however, was seriously lacking. I followed the recipe exactly using all ingredients specified. This is SO bland. It desperately needs more seasoning. I encourage you to spice it up a bit. I will not be making again.

Excellent recipe. Can’t wait to make again. Thank you so much for this amazing recipe.
Can you layer the pork chops and ingredients for a crowd?? This time I made 3 large pork chops. No more would fit.

    1. Sarah Olson says:

      Yes, you can layer it!

  3. Barbara says:

This looks so good. Do I have to peel the apples?

I made three boneless chops for dinner with roasted sweet potatoes. The pork chops were fabulous. My husband didn’t like a lot of the sauce on his but he does not care for sweets either. I loved the sauce. The next day bee shredded the leftover pork chop with a little bit of sauce and my husband LOVED it!!!! He said you can make this anytime you want. He said we should make in the summer and shred for pulled pork sliders and take to our next BBQ. I also cook for my mom and this will be something I can easily take over at lunch to her house and let cook for when she is ready for dinner.

What a sweet and thoughtful idea! Bet your Mom loves you a lot!

  6. Robert Crowter says:

Do you have to use apple cider vinegar ?

    1. Sarah Olson says:

No, but it does help cut some sweetness. Do you have any red wine or white vinegar you can use?

  7. C says:

Dry and tough chops. Cooked on high. Will sear first next time

SOOO GOOD!! We had a family friend of ours generously give us a jar of homemade apple butter that I ended up using for this recipe. I did have to make a couple slight adjustments: I used one can of unsweetened applesauce instead of two Granny Smith’s and I added three spoonfuls of brown sugar to sweeten it a bit more. The amount of liquid was a bit much but that’s what happens when you gotta substitute a solid for a liquid. Definitely a do again for my family!!

  9. Beth says:

I made homemade apple butter this morning to use in this recipe, so it took until noon to get it all in the crockpot, so it’s been cooking on low all day. I think at 5pm, cocktail hour, I’ll give it a stir and cook it on high so I can serve it at 6:00. I also broke up the pork chops, which I now regret, for presentation sake, so I think I’ll serve this dish over wheat hamburger buns. So far it smells really good! I’m excited to taste it!

I don’t like onions instead of onions I would add brown sugar I’ll probably be really good
