Why This Pork Chops with Apples Recipe Works

This easy recipe screams fall! My friend Brandi’s apple butter pork chops recipe inspired this recipe! We always have leftover apple butter, and this will be my go-to recipe to use it up. You can even use my slow cooker caramel apple butter!

This is the best pork chop recipe if you want juicy pork chops with a unique and flavorful sauce made with apple butter, apples, and onions. It makes for a great weeknight meal and hits every sweet and savory taste.

Recipe Ingredients

ingredients for apple butter pork chops on table
  • Bone-in pork chops – Bone-in pork chops work great for this pork chop apple recipe, though you can use ANY pork chop cut you want for this recipe; thick, thin, center cut, or boneless pork chops.
  • Salt and pepper – Add salt and pepper to your pork chops.
  • Apple Butter – Use store-bought or homemade stove-top apple butter, or make Slow Cooker Apple Butter or Slow Cooker Applesauce. There is no need to add any ground cinnamon or brown sugar, for the apple butter already has it. You can find apple butter on the jam aisle at the store.
  • Onion – White or sweet yellow onion.
  • Granny Smith Apples – These apples are perfect for this recipe; they add an apple flavor without being over-sweet.
  • Apple cider vinegar – Adds depth of flavor and cuts the sweetness in the apple butter.

Recipe FAQs

Can I use applesauce instead of apple butter?

Eating applesauce with pork chops is a natural thing! That’s where I believe this recipe was initially invented. If you only have applesauce, you can use that instead of apple butter in this recipe.

Can I add mustard to this pork chop recipe?

Yes! Add two tablespoons of Dijon or yellow mustard if you want a mustard tang to your dish.

Can I use a pork loin?

This recipe works very well with a pork loin. Make the recipe as directed and cook on low for 6 hours. Slice and enjoy!

How to store Leftovers?

Place any remaining pork chops in an airtight container and keep in the fridge for up to 4 days. The leftovers make a nice quick meal the next day and can easily be reheated over medium heat until warmed throughout.

What apples are best to use in this recipe?

Although I recommend Granny Smith, you can also use Pink Lady or Gala apples, both of which will add great flavor.

Iโ€™m giving this three stars only because the meat was delightfully tender. The flavor, however, was seriously lacking. I followed the recipe exactly using all ingredients specified. This is SO bland. It desperately needs more seasoning. I encourage you to spice it up a bit. I will not be making again.

Excellent recipe. Canโ€™t wait to make again. Thank you so much for this amazing recipe.
Can you layer the pork chops and ingredients for a crowd?? This time I made 3 large pork chops. No more would fit.

    1. Sarah Olson says:

      Yes, you can layer it!

  3. Barbara says:

This looks so good. Do I have to peel the apples?

I made three boneless chops for dinner with roasted sweet potatoes. The pork chops were fabulous. My husband didn’t like a lot of the sauce on his but he does not care for sweets either. I loved the sauce. The next day bee shredded the leftover pork chop with a little bit of sauce and my husband LOVED it!!!! He said you can make this anytime you want. He said we should make in the summer and shred for pulled pork sliders and take to our next BBQ. I also cook for my mom and this will be something I can easily take over at lunch to her house and let cook for when she is ready for dinner.

What a sweet and thoughtful idea! Bet your Mom loves you a lot!

  5. Brigitte says:

I have to try this recipe, I have been craving pork chops and applesauce for a while now.

  6. Robert Crowter says:

Do you have to use apple cider vinegar ?

    1. Sarah Olson says:

No, but it does help cut some sweetness. Do you have any red wine or white vinegar you can use?

  7. C says:

Dry and tough chops. Cooked on high. Will sear first next time

SOOO GOOD!! We had a family friend of ours generously give us a jar of homemade apple butter that I ended up using for this recipe. I did have to make a couple slight adjustments: I used one can of unsweetened applesauce instead of two Granny Smith’s and I added three spoonfuls of brown sugar to sweeten it a bit more. The amount of liquid was a bit much but that’s what happens when you gotta substitute a solid for a liquid. Definitely a do again for my family!!

  9. Beth says:

I made homemade apple butter this morning to use in this recipe, so it took until noon to get it all in the crockpot, so itโ€™s been cooking on low all day. I think at 5pm, cocktail hour, Iโ€™ll give it a stir and cook it on high so I can serve it at 6:00. I also broke up the pork chops, which I now regret, for presentation sake, so I think Iโ€™ll serve this dish over wheat hamburger buns. So far it smells really good! Iโ€™m excited to taste it!

I don’t like onions instead of onions I would add brown sugar I’ll probably be really good
