What kind of beans are in Hurst’s 15 Bean Soup Mix?
According to Hurst’s Hambeens, their soup mix contains at least 15 of these beans:
- Northern
- Pinto
- Large lima
- Blackeye
- Garbanzo
- Baby lima
- Kidney
- Cranberry
- Small white
- Pink
- Small Red
- Lentil
- Navy
- White Kidney
- Black
- Yellow eye
- Green Spilt
- Yellow split
I don’t know about you but I’m kind of mind blown that this soup mix I use may have even more beans than fifteen AND they all taste great together. I love how the smaller beans like the split peas and lentils melt into the soup and make it creamy
Should I soak my beans?
You do not need to presoak. Cooking the beans in the slow cooker on the high setting cooks them up perfectly. I do not soak any of my beans anymore.
If you are used to soaking and just can’t stop I understand! It was hard for me to make the changeover.
To soak beans overnight: sort any debris from the beans and discard then pour over water to cover (plus a few extra inches of
How to make Pizza Bean Soup:
- Place the 15 bean soup mix in a strainer. Sort out any debris from the beans and discard. Rinse the beans and add them to the slow cooker.
- You can save the ham seasoning packet that is included in the package for another recipe, you won’t need it in this recipe.
- Brown the sausage in a skillet on the stovetop. I use a roll of breakfast sausage for this recipe. Slice the pepperoni in thick slices. Add both of these to the slow cooker.
- Add your favorite pizza toppings next. I add green bell pepper, mushrooms, onions, olives, oregano,
and red pepper flakes. Then add chicken broth. - No salt needed! The sausage and pepperoni (and the marinara in the final step) is plenty of salt.
- Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on HIGH for 5 hours.
- When the cooking time is up
, add a jar of marinara sauce or 2 small jars of pizza sauce. Stir and serve!
Where can I find 15 Bean Soup Mix?
My go-to place for finding this mix is at Walmart (and many more of their mixes) or Fred Meyer (Kroger). You can also use this store locator.
What to serve with this soup?
- Top with mozzarella or parmesan
- Garlic bread
- Tossed green salad
We LOVED this soup. The sausage and pepperoni flavor the soup and beans PERFECTLY! I froze all the leftovers in small containers and can’t wait to have them later this month. You may also like Slow Cooker Pizza Dip and Slow Cooker Pizza Chicken.

Can you just throw everything together and the marinara/pizza sauce and let it all cook together for 5 hours. Or does it make a difference adding sauce at the end. Thx
Sometimes with bean recipes when you add tomatoes at the beginning, the beans won’t soften. Never know when it will happen, I have it happen before, but sometimes not.
Maybe because I have been on the Mediterranean diet due to health issues It tastes like there isn’t enough spices to me. 12 servings with only 2 cloves garlic, 2 tsp Oregano didn’t work for my taste. Beans aren’t my favorite food, however, I’m trying to be a good girl and incorporate them into my diet. With just the two of us in the house I can doctor this as I heat up leftovers till I get it right for my taste.
Can you please tell me the brand name of the green bowls?
I plan on making the soup this weekend.
Thank you
They are from world market!
This is so easy to make and is a delicious meal for a cold night. I have made it several times.
Delicious and easy
The flavor twist from ham/bean combos inspired me to make this! I, however, forgot to buy pizza sauce, so I subbed spaghetti. And I used red peppers vs. green. It was still delish, as I’m sure your original version is! Love Hurst’s Beans! Thanks!
I wish you would include instructions for freezing this soup.
Put it in a freezer safe container, refrigerate until cold, then freeze. Make sure you label with name and date.
Where can I buy 15 bean soup mix in Fredericton New Brunswick
hi Judy, I don’t think this bean mix is available in Canada. we’ll just have to wing it or look for some other mix to substitute.
me again! I just found a 13 bean soup mix on amazon.ca. Bob’s Red Mill 13 bean soup mix. I’m ordering it now cause this soup needs to get in my crock pot.
Got mine at FOOD BASICS in Leamington Ontario $2.69 a bag. It is enough to make possibly 1 1/2 batches of soup. Going to try this but add more gound beef to make it a more CHILLI STYLE MEAL.
Hi Judy! I got this from Hurst’s Beans: Unfortunately, we do not have any distribution in Canada. HOWEVER, if they ever find themselves just west of Fredericton over the border in Maine, we have products in all Hannaford supermarkets in the area.
