Your guest will love this unique recipe that adds canned apples and clove to a store-bought ham. Great for any holiday get-together.
I have been so excited to share this Slow Cooker Apple and Clove Ham recipe with you! It’s the type of recipe that makes me fall in love with the slow cooker even more. My apple pie baked beans recipe goes GREAT with this ham.
I don’t think there is a better flavor combination than this. The apples, apple juice, brown sugar, and clove make a sauce that cooks into the ham, and with the ham being spiral it makes for even more flavor added to the ham with the juices going in between the slices.
I bought a 10-pound ham, it looked like it would fit in my slow cooker, but it was a bit large. I cut an inch off the bottom then it fit perfectly. I used that extra ham for other recipes during the week. Apple juice is used as the liquid in this recipe, though apple cider would be good too.
How to make Apple and Clove Ham:
You will need these ingredients:
- Spiral ham
- Apple juice or cider
- Brown Sugar
- Ground Cloves
Directions:
- Place the ham in the slow cooker. If it doesn’t fit you can trim it to fit, use the excess for another recipe.
- Pour over the apple juice.
- Spread over the apples over the ham
- Sprinkle over the brown sugar and cloves.
- Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 6-7 hours or until hot in the center.
- Keep the lid on the entire cook time.
- Remove the ham slices onto each plate and pour over the sauce and apples onto each serving.
What to serve with your holiday ham:
- Slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes
- Slow Cooker Green Bean Casserole
- Slow Cooker Holiday Green Beans
- Slow Cooker Cranberry Sauce
- Slow Cooker Dinner Rolls
- Slow Cooker Butternut Squash
Can I use a ham that is not a spiral?
Yes, use any ham that you can fit into your slow cooker. You can use an unsliced ham in this recipe.
This will be the third year in a row that I’ve made this ham. It’s that good! Trust me on making mashed potatoes to go with this, it will make the meal. Enjoy this recipe and have a great holiday dinner.
After the holidays are over don’t forget to save this recipe for New Year’s Day Black Eyed Peas! It is rumored to bring good luck if you eat them.

Is the ham put in frozen for this recipe?
Sarah Olson says
no, will need much longer if frozen.
Sarah Olson says
They won’t crisp up. You can put in that oven.
Tanoi says
I made this today using the recipe listed. I used no-sugar added pie filling and it came out amazingly. The juice was splendid on mashed potatoes. Thanks for sharing!
Debbie Sargeant MacNutt says
Has anyone made this in an Instant Pot and any suggestions on how to do it?
Sandra Kittle says
what would be the difference using apple cider or apple juice
Sarah Olson says
Not much! Use what you have 🙂

Okay I really want to try this for Christmas. I’m making a 19 lb ham in roaster oven. How would you make the recipe work for that?
Cookingdad says
I ran into the same problem. I’m using a very large cooking pot, and mixing following the same recipe putting the oven on 200 for 6 hours.
Kim says
same here except I was going to do 250?
Vickie says
Does it have to be a spiral ham? Could you use a regular ham?
Sarah Olson says
yes, any ham would work fine!
Cathy Badalamenti says
I have made this with a spiral ham. I did find I only need to cook it 3- 4 hours on low.
Any time longer and it becomes over cooked.
Angie Buffington says
I was just wondering why you put everything in one at a time. Could you mix it all up and just pour over it?
Sarah Olson says
You can if you want, I don’t do it because the slow cooker will bubble up the ingredients and combine the flavors anyway.
Kendra Orndorff says
Can i just use cut up apples? My husband cannot have any sugar added of any kind? Please let me know
Sarah Olson says
I think that would work, slice them pretty thin.
Jennifer says
Which type of ham do you use for this recipe a fresh ham or a cooked ham?
Sarah Olson says
I would use a pork shoulder picnic ham. It should be cooked. Here is a good photo of the type I would use if I didn’t get a spiral. https://www.themagicalslowcooker.com/slow-cooker-brown-sugar-ham/
DEbbie says
So your saying the ham should already be cooked. Would a spiral ham work?
Sarah Olson says
Yes, spiral ham would work fine 🙂
Kimberly Michael says
I am using a ham butt not cooked will this be ok?
Sarah Olson says
It will take much longer. 10 hours on low or 7-8 on high. But will work.
Bonnie Melonas says
Do you think I could use pineapple instead of apple?
Sarah Olson says
I don’t see why not!
Yanette Granados says
Damn im going to try that yummmmm
Smays says
I can’t wait to try this for the Hampton, Thanks
