Why this crock pot steak bites recipe works
Crock pot steak bites are one of the tastiest meals to cook when you’re looking for something yummy and versatile. There’s so much you can do with stew meat so whether you’re catering to picky eaters or a potluck crowd, a crockpot steak bites recipe like this is worth trying.
You don’t have to worry about making anything from scratch because you’ll use packet au jus gravy mix, freshly minced garlic, salted or unsalted butter (whichever you prefer), and basic seasonings like kosher salt and black pepper. The most you’ll need to do (and that’s only if you want to) is brown the steak pieces before putting them into the slow cooker.
Recipe Ingredients
- Raw Steak Pieces: This recipe calls for a sirloin steak cut, which is a lean, flavorful cut of beef. Searing the steak before slow cooking helps to lock in the flavors and give the meat a nice browned color.
- Au Jus Gravy: Takes the guesswork out of making a delicious gravy and instead, provides you with the perfect taste for all the steak to simmer in while slow cooking.
- Beef Stock: This is added to help enhance the brown gravy mix and help flavor the cooked steak bites.
- Butter: Butter always makes things better and that’s certainly no different with these crockpot beef tips.
- Olive Oil: A little oil is used to sear the steak bites just a bit before adding them to the remaining ingredients.
- Seasonings: Garlic, salt, and pepper will flavor the beef cubes and help create a flavorful gravy.
Step-by-Step Directions
Step One – Prepare a large skillet with a heaping tablespoon of olive oil and heat to medium high heat. Add the steak bites to the hot skillet and sear the steak until just done on a few sides. You do not need to cook the bites thoroughly.
Step Two – Add the sirloin steaks to the slow cooker.
Step Three – Sprinkle in the au jus packet, and add the beef stock, quartered butter, and garlic. Mix to combine.
Step Four – Cover and cook on HIGH for 2 hours or LOW for 4 hours or until the juicy steak is done and tender. Serve according to the suggestions below and enjoy!
How to serve
- Serve the steak bites with the sauce from the slow cooker and over a bed of mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
- These bite sized pieces are delicious paired with pasta or bread to soak up the flavorful sauce. They also make a great filling for sandwiches or wraps.
- You can also serve this slow cooker beef on top of a healthy salad or as an additional topping for nachos and baked potatoes.

family loved it but said they wished there was more broth to put over the noodles. Can I add more broth without changing the flavour?
I think it would be fine (it’s a pretty salty dish) — If you taste after cooking, you can always add a little more salt or maybe some garlic powder.
I couldn’t find sirloin so I used beef stew.I had to let it cook an hour longer.
Made these last night for my boyfriend and I. They were absolutely AMAZING and delicious!! I will definitely be adding this recipe to our meal rotation. Thank you for this yummy recipe!
Made this today for the first time – it was wonderful! You are my go-to person for crockpot recipes – never a bad one!
My picky family loved this recipe. My son actually asked me to put this in our meal rotation. This does not happen very often. Thank you for the recipe. I will be trying more of your recipes.
Anyone who has made this, have you found it better with rice, egg noodles or mashed potatoes? Just curious…
My family really enjoyed it with egg noodles
Can this be adapted to an instant pot? I’d like to make this when we go glamping. I can’t use a slow cooker, because I can’t run a generator that long. I also added a PKG of baby Bella’s chunked. Omg so good!
I don’t see why not. You may need to make sure you have a cup of liquid total.
A wonderful meal. I could only find tenderloin and that worked well. I mixed in some steamed green beans to give them flavor too. I have been getting a remodel for my kitchen for the past month. During that time, I have been eating meals made in three slow cookers stationed in my basement. I have been using many of your easier recipes to get me through it. Thank you.
If using tenderloin, instead of slowcooker, would it be better to do in frying pan for a quicker cooking method? Steak should already be tender.
Yes, you definitely can do that!
What is in the au jus packet?
It’s beef flavored broth.
Looks good but how many people does it feed?
Thank You
Jeff
It feed six ppl when I made it for my family.
How long would i cook it for a double batch?
I would try high for 3 hours or low for 5 hours.
