Craving homemade turkey soup but don’t have any leftovers? This Cajun smoked turkey 15 bean soup is the perfect solution! To make it easy, I use thickly diced smoked turkey from the deli, typically used for sandwiches, since finding smoked turkey in my area can be a challenge.

If you haven’t yet tried Hurst’s HamBeens Cajun 15 Bean Soup mix, this recipe is the perfect introduction. The beans cook beautifully in the crockpot, and the Cajun seasoning adds just the right blend of spices to bring this hearty soup to life.

Recipe Ingredients

Ingredients for slow cooker cajun 15 bean soup on a table.
  • Cajun 15 Bean Soup Mix: This soup mix made by Hurst’s Hambeens, can be found at most stores, I can find it at my local Walmart easily. You can find where to purchase this bean mix with this store locator or order online.
  • Smoked Turkey: Go to the deli at the supermarket where they sell lunchmeats and ask for 2 pounds of smoked turkey breast, but not sliced. Cube this turkey for the soup.
  • Vegetables: Carrots, celery, leeks, and red bell pepper. Leeks are my favorite way to add great flavor to soups.
  • Worcestershire Sauce: This secret ingredient adds depth of flavor to this dish.
  • Chicken Broth: Since turkey stock can be hard to find, chicken broth does just fine.

Variations

  • Other smoked turkey options include smoked turkey wings or smoked turkey drumsticks.
  • If you have leftover turkey, add it to the soup along with 1/2 teaspoon of hickory smoke for extra depth.
  • Not a fan of Cajun flavors? Use Hurst’s Hambeens regular 15 Bean Soup Mix with the included ham seasoning packet instead.
  • Additional vegetables you can add are mushrooms, green beans, or canned diced tomatoes.
  1. Rinse and sort beans, discarding any debris. Add the beans to the slow cooker. Save the Cajun flavor packet for after the entire cooking time is up. Pour over the chicken broth.
  2. Add the cubed turkey, vegetables and Worcestershire sauce. Cook on HIGH for 5-6 hours.
  1. Add the Cajun seasoning packet and stir when the cooking time is up. Add salt to taste.
  2. Serve and enjoy!
