Why you should try this buffalo chicken dip

Dip is a universal appetizer that can be served for game days (especially a super bowl party), potlucks, or to have on hand to go with a meal. This crockpot buffalo chicken dip is not only a delicious dip, but it’s a party food that calls for minimal ingredients and a short cooking time. This dip is much easier to make than homemade buffalo chicken wings.

You can easily double (or triple) the recipe and have a tasty snack with the leftovers. Take the guesswork out of what to make for your next party and make a batch of this easy buffalo chicken dip.

Recipe Ingredients

Ingredients for buffalo chicken dip on a table.
  • Rotisserie Chicken: Skip having to bake and flavor your own chicken and purchase a whole rotisserie cooked chicken. Or you can use any leftover chicken you may have on hand.
  • Shredded Cheese: Shredded cheese adds a creamy texture to the dip. I use Sargento 4-blend but you can use a shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Ranch Dressing: Adds more flavor and helps create the buffalo flavor.
  • Hot Sauce: I like to use Frank’s Red Hot sauce, but you can use whatever brand you prefer.
  • Cream Cheese: Combines with shredded cheese for the perfect amount of cheesy goodness.
  • Garnish: Fresh green onion makes a great garnish for a dip recipe like this.

Step-by-Step Directions

Step One – Start by removing chicken from a rotisserie chicken, I like to do this when the chicken is cooled down. Add the shredded chicken to the slow cooker. Add ranch dressing (from a bottle), Frank’s Red Hot, cream cheese, and cheddar cheese.

Step Two – Stir until combined.

Step Three – Cover and cook the dip on HIGH for 2 hours. Stir 1-2 times during the cooking time to prevent burning. Serve and enjoy!

Recipe FAQs

Can I use shredded chicken?

If you want to cook your own chicken for this recipe, you can! Cook about 3 chicken breasts on the stove-top in a skillet or use my slow cooker shredded chicken recipe. Shred each chicken breast with two forks and proceed with the remaining cooking steps.

Can I bake this?

Yes! If you run out of time to slow cook you can bake instead. Place in a preheated 350 degree oven and bake uncovered for 30 mins.

Does the pre shredded cheese actually melt in this crock pot buffalo chicken dip?

Yes, it should because of the additional ingredients. If you have time, you can shred your own cheese using the block cheese.

What is the best way to store leftovers?

Keep any remaining chicken buffalo dip in crock pot if it will be eaten the same day. If not, add it to an airtight container and store it in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat it over low heat on the stove top.

Are there any variations I can do with this dip?

Absolutely! You can swap out the ranch dressing for blue cheese dressing and blue cheese crumbles. You can also use canned chicken. And last but not least, you can use a buffalo sauce (such as sweet baby rays buffalo sauce). Add extra hot sauce or buffalo wing sauce for an additional kick.

What can I do with leftover buffalo chicken dip?

You can reheat leftover dip and eat it as a dip or use it for a topping on tacos.
