Baked beans are effortlessly prepared in the crockpot, and this recipe takes them to the next level by transforming them from a side dish into a hearty, full meal. I’ve taken my favorite crockpot baked beans recipe and made it better with three savory meats: ground beef, crispy bacon, and flavorful kielbasa. Serve these beans with cornbread for a satisfying, crowd-pleasing dish (think game day!)
This recipe is very similar to my Land Your Man Baked Beans, which is also one of my favorite ways to amp up baked beans.
Recipe Ingredients
- Canned Beans – Yes, it may seem weird to start with cooked baked beans while making a recipe for baked beans, but they are really the best base for a crockpot baked bean recipe! The beans do not get mushy, even with the lengthy cooking time. Also, a can of kidney beans adds more texture.
- Meats – Cooked ground beef, cooked bacon and sliced kielbasa sausage make these baked beans “loaded”.
- Spices and flavorings – Brown sugar, garlic powder, chili powder, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce and mustard add a unique flavor to these baked beans.
- Vegetables – An onion and bell pepper are added for flavor and both will make the house smell amazing while cooking.
Variations
- Pork n’ Beans can be used instead of baked beans; double the brown sugar and mustard, though.
- Not all the meats have to be used! You can use one or two of them instead of all three.
- Pinto beans can be used instead of kidney beans.
- For spicy loaded baked beans, add diced poblano pepper or jalapeno!
- Maple syrup can be used instead of brown sugar.
Step-by-Step Directions
- Cook and crumble the ground beef in a pan on the stovetop (set to medium-high heat), then transfer to the slow cooker. Do the same with the bacon. Add the kielbasa to the slow cooker as well.
- Add the remaining ingredients and stir.
- Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 5 hours. Stir and serve!
What to serve with this
- We like to serve this as a main meal alongside coleslaw and cornbread. (Try my slow cooker cornbread).
- These baked beans also make a great HEARTY side dish for a crowd (think game day!). Serve with ribs, chicken and mac and cheese.
- The loaded baked beans are also great over steamed white rice.
