Steak Bites are one of the best things to come out of a slow cooker! The steak is ultra tender, and the garlic butter sauce is decadent and perfect with your favorite sides.

Key Ingredients
Find the full recipe with ingredient amounts in the recipe card below the images.
- Raw Steak Pieces: This recipe calls for a sirloin steak cut, which is a lean, flavorful cut of beef. Searing the steak before slow cooking helps to lock in the flavors and give the meat a nice browned color. I like to look for steak that isn’t too fatty..
- Au Jus Gravy: This is not a thick gravy, it’s a thinner gravy mix normally used for French Dip Sandwiches, it has amazing rich beef flavor.
- Butter: Butter always makes things better and that’s certainly no different with these crockpot beef tips.
- Seasonings: Garlic, salt, and pepper will flavor the beef cubes and help create a flavorful gravy.
Cook’s Notes
This recipe is very versatile. Here are my tips and variations:
- This recipe may seem expensive, but I often find value packs of sirloin steaks to be as expensive as a chuck roast. This recipe that feeds a few people is cheaper than dining out.
- You can use other tender cuts of beef such as tenderloin, ribeye or even strip steak if you prefer. You can even use beef stew meat for a cheaper version.
- Use Cajun seasoning instead of any salt in this recipe.
- Make ranch steak bites by substituting the au jus packet for a ranch packet.
- Mushrooms, bell peppers, and onions are great additions.
My Serving Suggestions
Here are my favorite ways to serve these tender steak bites:
- Serve the steak bites with the sauce from the slow cooker and over a bed of mashed potatoes, steamed white rice, or egg noodles. (or favorite is white rice).
- Other side dishes that go great are baked potatoes, slow cooker mac and cheese or scalloped potatoes.
- You can also serve this on top of a healthy salad or wrapped in a tortilla.

family loved it but said they wished there was more broth to put over the noodles. Can I add more broth without changing the flavour?
I think it would be fine (it’s a pretty salty dish) — If you taste after cooking, you can always add a little more salt or maybe some garlic powder.
I couldn’t find sirloin so I used beef stew.I had to let it cook an hour longer.
Made these last night for my boyfriend and I. They were absolutely AMAZING and delicious!! I will definitely be adding this recipe to our meal rotation. Thank you for this yummy recipe!
Made this today for the first time – it was wonderful! You are my go-to person for crockpot recipes – never a bad one!
My picky family loved this recipe. My son actually asked me to put this in our meal rotation. This does not happen very often. Thank you for the recipe. I will be trying more of your recipes.
Anyone who has made this, have you found it better with rice, egg noodles or mashed potatoes? Just curious…
My family really enjoyed it with egg noodles
Can this be adapted to an instant pot? I’d like to make this when we go glamping. I can’t use a slow cooker, because I can’t run a generator that long. I also added a PKG of baby Bella’s chunked. Omg so good!
I don’t see why not. You may need to make sure you have a cup of liquid total.
A wonderful meal. I could only find tenderloin and that worked well. I mixed in some steamed green beans to give them flavor too. I have been getting a remodel for my kitchen for the past month. During that time, I have been eating meals made in three slow cookers stationed in my basement. I have been using many of your easier recipes to get me through it. Thank you.
If using tenderloin, instead of slowcooker, would it be better to do in frying pan for a quicker cooking method? Steak should already be tender.
Yes, you definitely can do that!
What is in the au jus packet?
It’s beef flavored broth.
Looks good but how many people does it feed?
Thank You
Jeff
It feed six ppl when I made it for my family.
How long would i cook it for a double batch?
I would try high for 3 hours or low for 5 hours.
