This retro recipe for slow cooker no-peek chicken has tender chicken, onion flavor, and rice! A great dinner recipe that is a one pot meal.

Recipe Highlights
No Peek Chicken is a creamy retro casserole
The meaning of “no-peek” is that you want to keep this casserole covered while cooking
Comforting, easy, and family-friendly

Key Ingredients
- Chicken Breasts – Boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- Minute® Rice – A must for this recipe; regular rice won’t cook properly.
- Cream Soups – One can each of cream of chicken and cream of mushroom.
- Lipton® Onion Soup Mix – One packet adds big flavor.
- Seasonings – Garlic powder and black pepper keep it simple.

How to Make No Peek Chicken
- Mix up a creamy, seasoned blend with rice and soup.
- Layer some of the mixture in the slow cooker, then add the chicken and top it all off.
- Sprinkle on something savory to finish it off.
- Cover it up and let it cook—no peeking until it’s done and delicious!
Sarah’s Notes & Variations
- Minute brand Jasmine or brown rice will work in this recipe
- Onions and mushrooms are perfect additions if you want it to be more hearty.
- Chicken thighs can be used instead of chicken breasts
- Do not add salt to this recipe, the cream soup and onion soup mix have enough sodium as is.

How to Serve
- This is a full meal in itself in one pot; no sides are really necessary.
- If you want to round out the meal, add a green side dish such as steamed broccoli or a fresh green salad.

Could you substitute the shredded cauliflower instead of instant rice? Has anyone done this?
How long would you cook it with chicken strips instead of breasts?
same time, the chicken will be fine for that long. 🙂
Calories per serving?
You will have to figure that out this with an online calculator. This is not a low calorie recipe.
For those of you wondering about using standard rice, I made this today with standard rice and I kept everything else exactly the same, except for I used thigh fillets for my chicken, but for the rice, I used 1 cup of long grain brown instead of 2 cups of minute, and it turned out perfectly and was so yummy!! This is a great recipe and so easy to throw together with everything else that is already in your pantry! Will definitely be making it regularly!
I will have to try that. Thank you for letting us know your measurements.
I grew up on this recipe. I love it! Are usually use a soup can of milk instead of water. What do you think? It probably just adds more creaminess. Can’t wait to try in the slow cooker!
I think that would be a great idea! I will do that next time I make it myself.
Making it with potatoes. I didn’t have rice. Will update
How could I adapt this for a 4 quart crock pot? Thank you!
Hi Hannah, I’m looking back at my photos and using my 6-quart crockpot it looks like there was plenty of space left, that being said I think it would fit in the 4-quart, just keep the lid on the entire time.
Can you double the recipe?
I have not tried, I don’t see why not since the rice is instant and does very well in the crock pot.
any recommendations for making this in oven?
This looks like it would work! https://www.food.com/recipe/no-peek-chicken-59824
