We love trying new dips in the crockpot and this one is a keeper. It has mostly pantry ingredients, so it’s easy on the budget. No expensive meat to buy either makes it cheaper as well. See what I put in this dip that makes it so craveable. Another festive recipe for Superbowl or fall football is our Sunday Funday Dip.

Ingredients for football dip in front of a crockpot.

The Ingredients

Refried Beans – These are a flavor in the background, and help keep the dip thick.

Chili with Beans – These add a chili flavor but also add some meat to the dip. If you’ve ever had chili cheese dip, then you will know how good this flavor is in dips.

Velveeta – This is the base of the dip and will melt down to perfection.

Taco Seasoning – This great blend of flavors goes wonderful with the other dip ingredients.

Salsa – Adds freshness to the dip.

Sour Cream – Will add even more creaminess.

How to Make Football Dip

  1. Cube the cheese and load everything into the crockpot.
  2. Let it melt into a creamy, chili-bean queso while you give it an occasional stir.
  3. Set to warm and enjoy the game.

Sarah’s Tips & Variations

Add Meat: If you want a meaty dip, add 1 pound of cooked and crumbled ground beef, Jimmy Dean sausage or chorizo.

Too thick? If your dip thickens while serving, add a splash of milk to thin down.

Add Spice: Use a hot salsa or add 1-2 diced jalapenos. If you have guests that like it both ways, just offer chopped jalapeno or hot sauce on the side.

How to Serve

Serve with tortilla chips; offer chopped tomatoes, green onions, and black olives on the side.

Serving ideas beyond chips? Nachos, loaded baked potatoes, taquitos/pretzel bites, or make “walking tacos.”

Other appetizers to round out game day are slow cooker buffalo dip, grape jelly meatballs and apple butter little smokies.

How Many Does This Serve?

About 9–10 cups total; plan 12–16 appetizer servings (½–¾ cup each). If you are feeding a large crowd, buy two large bags of chips.

What other Game Day Dips to Make?

Go classic-cheesy with Queso Blanco or a velvety Rotel Dip—both easy, melty crowd-pleasers.

Turn up the heat with Buffalo Chicken Dip or go hearty with Sausage Dip (savory, meaty, scoopable).

For bigger appetites, bake up Texas Trash Dip (beef-and-bean queso) and finish with zesty Taco Dip for that Tex-Mex bite.

You could try real cheese from a block and some cream cheese.
