Key Ingredients
Cake Mix: For this recipe, I used a box cake mix – Betty Crocker Super Moist yellow cake mix. You may also want to try my Chocolate Cherry Dump Cake.
Cherry Pie Filling: Find this on the baking aisle, be sure it doesn’t say lite or sugar free.
Salted Butter: This will be melted and poured over the top to help make the cakey layer.
White Chocolate Chips: One of the other highlights of this recipe is the chocolate chip finish on top. It adds the right amount of sweetness without being too overbearing.

How to make Crockpot Cherry Dump Cake
- Layer cherry pie filling in the crock, then blanket it with dry cake mix.
- Drizzle melted butter over everything and scatter on white-chocolate chips.
- Cover and slow-cook until the top looks cakey and the center sets.

Sarah’s Tips & Variations
Cake mix Swap: Can use any cake mix of your choice, white, spice or chocolate are great choices. We’ve even used lemon!
Filling Change: Blueberry or Apple Pie filling can be swapped for the cherry filling.
Condensation: If you are worried about condensation, dding a clean kitchen towel or a couple of paper towels between the lid and the slow cooker. Though, there isn’t enough in this recipe that I think this is necessary.
Gluten Free or Sugar Free: You can use gluten-free or sugar-free cake mix with this recipe, it works great.

How to serve:
- A (generous) scoop of cherry dump cake and a scoop of vanilla ice cream is one the best ways to serve this amazing dessert.
- You can also get creative with the toppings by adding whipped cream, extra cherries, crushed pecans, or even a dash of ground cinnamon.
- Don’t hesitate to serve this dessert as-is too.

I’ll be making this for a pot luck tomorrow but I’ll be substituting with, no-sugar-added apple pie filling, spice cake mix, and caramel baking bits instead of the white chocolate chips 🙂
Do we cook it on low or high? I looked and couldn’t find that info. I am dying to make this!
This I’d like to know as well. With the cook times listed I’m assuming low would work. I’ll be making this recipe soon. It looks absolutely delicious !
It’s on high, see the full recipe in the recipe card.
Can I use white cake mix instead of yellow?
Yes!
Just found this. Does round or oval slow cooker matter? And does salted or unsalted butter matter? Also no white chocolate chips so I omited. That okay too?
Oval slow cooker slow cooker is best. I like to use salted butter. I think that will be fine without the chips.
Can you use peaches instead of cherries?
You can, or peach pie filling.
I would like to use my fresh boysenberries or satsuma plums, both with a lot of juice when they cook. Can fresh fruit be used this way or is there another type to use with fresh fruit? I have a Instant Pot that I use as a slow cooker
Can this be made with any flavor of cake mix? I was thinking about using apples and a spice mix.

Where is the recipe?
I’m seeing here on my screen? It’s below the picture.
Can you use can fruit if you drain the juice .?
I don’t see why not! I would add a touch of the juice though.
So no eggs or milk liquid? what is the liquid that needs to set?
