These Slow Cooker Pork and Beans have so much retro flavor! The shredded pork is tender and so are the beans, such a great match to make in the slow cooker.

We love a good baked bean recipe! We also make Slow Cooker Baked Beans, Loaded Baked Beans and Land Your Man Beans.

    Why Make Pork and Beans?

We usually serve our baked beans with pork, so why not do it together? It really is a match made in heaven when you make slow cooker pork and beans.

This recipe has a long cooking time, making it great for cooking in an RV while camping or for days when you work long hours.

The pork shoulder is melt-in-your-mouth tender, thanks to the slow cooker! And it won't heat up your house like when you use your oven.

    The Ingredients

ingredients for pork and beans on a table.

Pork and Seasonings: A pork shoulder (or pork butt) is great for shredding and it has plenty of flavor. I season the pork with brown sugar, onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Brown sugar will add some sweetness.

Onion: Cooks down with the pork and adds some texture to the dish.

Baked Beans: Canned baked beans finish off the dish; they are already cooked and tender.

Finish it off: To make the baked bean flavors, barbecue sauce, mustard, worcestshire sauce and more brown sugar tie the entire dish together.

    Tips and Variations

Cut Swap: If you can't find pork shoulder or pork butt, country sytle ribs will work great. (see my Country Style Ribs and Baked Beans recipe).

Add Bacon: Add a pound of cooked bacon when you add the baked beans for more smokey flavor.

Bell Pepper: Bell pepper goes great in this. Just add one diced bell pepper at the beginning of the cooking time.

How to Serve Pork and Beans

Toppings: Add a dash of hot sauce, sharp cheddar cheese, green onion and a dollop of sour cream to really amp up the dish.

Sides: Cornbread is a perfect choice as a side; don't feel like cooking it? The bakery section of the store usually has small trays of cornbread next to the french bread. Of course you can also serve with garlic bread or tortillas.

Baked Bean Flavor: Use your favorite variety of baked beans. They don't have to be original flavor.

Can Pork Loin be used in Pork and Beans?

I don't recommend using such a lean cut of meat. It will taste more like shredded pork chops and won't have the richness you get from pork shoulder or pork butt.

Can canned Pork and Beans be used instead of Baked Beans?

Yes, though you will need to add more of the flavorings such as barbecue sauce and brown sugar.

How to Store Pulled Pork and Beans

These BBQ pork and beans store great! They will keep for about four days in the refrigerator or up to six months in the freezer. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.

    How to Video

    Ingredients

    • 3 lbs. pork shoulder or pork butt, (I use a pork blade roast)
    • 1 cup water
    • 1/4 cup brown sugar
    • 1 tsp. salt
    • 1/2 tsp. pepper
    • 1 tsp. onion powder
    • 1 tsp. garlic powder
    • 1 white onion, diced

    WAIT TO ADD

    • 56 oz. original Bush's baked beans
    • 1/4 cup reserved juices from pork roast
    • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
    • 2 Tbsp. yellow mustard
    • 2 Tbsp. brown sugar
    • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce

    Instructions

    • Add the pork roast to the slow cooker. Add the water. Sprinkle over the seasonings, and add the white onion.
    • Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-9 hours or until the pork is ultra tender.
    • Shred the pork with two forks, either on a plate or right in the slow cooker, being careful to discard any fat. Remove the excess cooking liquid, reserving 1/4 cup in the slow cooker. Place the shredded pork back in the slow cooker.
    • Add the baked beans, barbecue sauce, mustard, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce. Stir. Let cook for about 30 more minutes on HIGH or until the beans are cooked through.
    • Serve and enjoy!

    Sarah's Notes

If you buy a pork shoulder that is smaller than what I used, it's fine! The recipe is very adaptable.
The ingredients to flavor the baked beans can be adjusted to taste! Add more flavorings to taste.
