Hello! I have another great bean recipe for you today made with Hurst’s HamBeens Pinto Beans with Ham flavor. If you are a fan of Navy Bean and Bacon Soup then you will LOVE this. Pinto beans are by far my favorite bean and I usually only make refried beans with them. Now I have a new go to recipe for my love of pinto beans. Hurst’s pinto beans are great quality, I had a different brand of pinto beans I found in my pantry and those beans were tiny compared to the Hurst’s Brand. You can see where to find these Hurst’s Hambeens Pinto Beans here.
I do not presoak my beans in this recipe. It’s really not necessary! I keep the lid on the slow cooker the entire cooking time and the beans turn out very tender. I use a full 12 cups of chicken broth in this recipe, the beans really soak up the broth and I wanted enough liquid to make a soup. Though this recipe is very similar to Navy Bean and Bacon soup, I could not resist in adding a jalapeño. If you don’t like spicy, it’s fine to leave the jalapeño out.
This is what the beans look like after the cooking time is up. I wait to add the ham flavoring until right before serving.
Isn’t this a great looking soup? I hope you give it a try. If you want to see more bean recipes like this, you can find them here at Hurst’s Hambeens website. Have a great weekend!

Fantastic! Did not add pepper not into spicy.
would tomatoes instead of carrots be an okay change ? I HATE cooked carrots lol.
yes, but add them at the end. Tomatoes can keep the beans from softening.
Has anyone tried this with Anasazi beans?
What gives it the thick broth look. Is it that thick when it is cooked?
Because it’s cooked so long some of the beans break down and that helps make a thick broth. The more it’s stirred too, that happens.
Can I use 15 bean soup w/HAM PACKET
Yes! It will be good!
My daughter cant eat pork. Could I substitute turkey bacon and leave out the ham flavoring?
Yes! Also the ham flavoring is vegetarian, so no pork in it. ๐
I like it better without the ham packet myself!!!! Makes a totally different soup!!
Yep! I think the beans are great quality and good with or without the packet.
I can not find the package of Hurst beans, where has people found them?
I’ve had the best luck at Walmart.
7 hours on high seems like along time to be on high. Has anyone made any adjustments to this?
Hi Jeff, beans take some time to soften. You can do 10 on low if you’d like.
Thank you Sarah, I think my slow cooker may be hotter than others. Even if I do a pot roast in mine on low for 7-8 hours, I usually end up putting it on keep warm for the last 2-3 hours.
Oh, I see. You’d have to test it out then for sure.
The recipe looks great, but … 10servings? I’d end up eating this night after night after night.
D’you think the excess could be frozen, without impairing the flavours?
What did we do for dinner, before the slowcooker came into our lives?
Hi Kristy! I think it would freeze fine. Or I think the recipe would work great cut in half as well!
Amazon has your book for………..$$$68???
It’s been discontinued. Those are just inflated prices. I’m getting the rights back to the book soon and will probably only sell the e-book.
