Why You’ll Love This Baked Beans Recipe

There are many ways to cook baked beans but knowing how to flavor them just perfectly takes a little bit of practice. With this “land your man recipe,” you’ll bring together the flavors of brown sugar, ketchup, and mustard for the start of a homemade barbecue flavor. Then, you’ll add a slight twist with taco seasoning and hot sauce for a winning flavor combination.

Using your crock pot takes the guesswork out of how long to cook the beans and gives all of the ingredients time to marry together for the tastiest beans ever. My husband (and family) loves these beans and I know yours will too! Try my Loaded Baked Beans recipe if you want even more meat in your beans.

Recipe Ingredients

ingredients for slow cooker land your man baked beans on a table.
  • Baked Beans – Two large cans of Original Baked Beans. You can use any brand you prefer.
  • Ground Beef – One pound of cooked ground beef for this recipe. Not a usual ingredient for baked beans, though it makes it filling and hearty.
  • Bacon – Cooked bacon will give the baked beans a smokey flavor, be sure to cook it first for uncooked bacon doesn’t add anything but grease to a slow cooker recipe.
  • Brown Sugar – Just a touch of brown sugar sweetens the recipe.
  • Onion – Sweet yellow onion is best for baked beans.
  • Hot sauce – This is optional; I use one tablespoon of our favorite hot sauce, Tapatio, which made these beans have quite the kick, which my husband and I don’t mind. Leave out the hot sauce, and make sure to buy mild taco seasoning if you don’t like spicy foods.
  • Other Ingredients – Ketchup and mustard will help make and flavor the sauce.

  • Side dish – Serve as a side dish along with your pulled pork or ribs. You’ll surely have everyone asking for the recipe.
  • Main meal – These land your man baked beans are hearty enough to be served as a main meal (like you would pinto beans or a bowl of chili). Serve with a hunk of cornbread, tortilla chips, or warmed flour tortillas on the side.
  • Topping – Yes, these beans would taste amazing over a baked potato, a pile of mashed potatoes, or even over a bed of nachos with cheese.

Recipe FAQs

Do canned beans get mushy in the slow cooker?

Canned beans hold up very well in the slow cooker, believe it or not! The sauce is a perfect consistency; the flavor is excellent and only gets better with the other ingredients. It’s no different than baking them.

Can I use pork and beans instead of baked beans?

Yes! Use the same amount of beans but double the brown sugar.

How to store

If you have any leftovers, be sure to put them in the fridge straight away. They can be stored in the refrigerator for up to three days or in the freezer for three months.

I have loved all of your recipes that I have tried, but this one not so much. I find there is an after taste & think it’s starting out with baked beans, then adding more baked bean ingredients on top. Can you suggest another type of canned bean to start with?

Iโ€™ve got cooking in the CP now the only change I made was no bell pepper. My plan is a cast iron skillet of corn bread to go with it.
Will let you know how it turns out

  9. Alley says:

Came across this recipe and tried it. The only change I made is that after following the recipe exactly was to chop an onion and saute it in some butter and let everybody stir some into their own servings once the beans were done.

  10. Gloria Ruddle says:

Sarah, this was delicious! My husband of 50 years agrees & had seconds. I knew he’d love it! Thank you so much for the recipe. I’ll be sure to try some of your other recipes.
