Why This Recipe Works
Baking a delicious cake is pretty easy to do, but when you want to add lots of flavors and tastes throughout every bite, you’ll want to do more than just switch up the icing. And that’s where this addicting cake comes in to play.
It’s considered a poke cake because you’ll poke holes in it and drizzle with caramel and condensed milk to allow those flavors to embed directly into the cake itself. Then it’s topped with whipped topping and crushed Heath bars for a finished dessert that won’t last long.
Make this slow cooker version of better than sex cake for your next potluck, game day gathering, or to satisfy a sweet tooth.

Step-by-Step Directions
Step One – Add cake mix, eggs, water, and melted butter to a large mixing bowl.
Step Two – Blend cake batter ingredients together until smooth.
Step Three – Spray the slow cooker with cooking spray, then add the batter. Smooth into an even layer. Cover and cook on HIGH for 2 hours without opening the lid during cooking.
Step Four – When done, use the end of a wooden spoon to poke holes in the cake.
Step Five – Pour over sweetened condensed milk.
Step Six – Then pour over a 1⁄2 cup of caramel topping.
Step Seven – Remove the slow cooker insert and sit aside to cool. When the bottom of the insert is cool to the touch, place the cake into the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight.
Step Eight – Once chilled, spread the whipped topping evenly over the cooled cake.
Step Nine – Then sprinkle the chopped Heath bar over top and drizzle over the caramel and chocolate topping. Serve by scooping out the cake with a large spoon. Enjoy!
Recipe Variations
- I like using the extra creamy Cool Whip, but you can also substitute homemade whipped cream for whipped topping.
- Other toppings can include chocolate chips, almonds, butterfinger bars, Reese’s peanut butter cups, toffee bits, chopped Snickers bars, or Heath Bits.
- Other chocolate cake mixes, such as regular or German chocolate, can be substituted for the Devil’s Food cake mix.

Another option is to put down some alfoil and spray it before putting in the cake mix, this will allow you to just grab the foil at the end and pull it all out of the slow cooker.
