What is a white Russian cocktail?

The name “White Russian” might be misleading, as the cocktail did not originate in Russia. The drink evolved from the “Black Russian,” a cocktail first crafted by a bartender in Brussels, which combined vodka and coffee liqueur. The addition of cream later transformed it into the “White Russian” we know today.

This “Hot White Russian” recipe offers an enhanced experience with the addition of coffee alongside the traditional ingredients of half & half, Kahlúa, and vodka, which all together make for a great drink to sip on. Another similar recipe we love to make is Slow Cooker Hot Buttered Rum Coffee!

Recipe Ingredients

ingredients for slow cooker hot white russians on a table.
  • Coffee – Freshly brewed coffee – Don’t use stale coffee that was brewed earlier in the day.
  • Vodka – A staple in White Russians.
  • Kahlua – This is a sweet coffee liqueur.
  • Half & Half – Add creaminess to the drink.
  • Cinnamon – We use this as a garnish, adding a holiday flavor to the hot White Russians.
  • Whipped Cream – This is used to top coffee drinks.

Variations

  • Vanilla or whipped cream vodka can be used instead of plain.
  • If you have flavored Kahlua, such as salted caramel or vanilla, that works great.
  • Heavy cream is great instead of half and half for a very creamy drink.

Step-by-Step Directions

  1. Add the coffee, half and half, vodka, and Kahlua to the slow cooker. Stir
  2. Cook on LOW or until warmed through.
  3. Serve and enjoy!

Sarah’s Notes

  • I used Tito’s vodka but your favorite brand will work as well as long as it does not have too much bite.
  • Flavored vodkas, such as cinnamon or vanilla, would be a great way to mix this drink up a bit.
  • You can also use milk or heavy cream instead of half and half for this drink depending on the richness you desire.
  • These are best enjoyed right away.

What’s the point of even making this if you are going to cook all the alcohol out of it?

    1. Sarah Olson says:

The slow cooker doesn’t get hot enough in this amount of time to cook out the alcohol.
