Christmas season wouldn’t be the same without sitting down together to watch The Grinch—and yes, we go all out and watch every version! To make it even more special, we always whip up a big batch of this fun hot chocolate. There’s just something about sipping a warm, festive drink that makes the movie-watching experience feel extra cozy and magical.

This hot chocolate is all about creamy, dreamy white chocolate flavor. I keep it simple and skip the mint that some recipes use, so it has a mellow taste that’s perfect for everyone in the family. Kids love it because it’s sweet and smooth, and adults can’t resist it either—it’s just that comforting!

Ingredients for slow cooker grinch hot chocolate on a table.
  • Whole Milk: A half gallon of whole milk is the easiest way to start grinch hot chocolate in the slow cooker.
  • White Chocolate Chips: These melt perfectly into the milk and make for a wonderful hot chocolate. You only need one bag for this for white chocolate chips are sweeter than other chocolate chips.
  • Vanilla and Green Food Coloring: A touch of vanilla (don’t add too much for it will effect the color) and a few drops of green food coloring for the “grinch” color.
  • For Serving: Whipped cream (here is my recipe for homemade whipped cream) and red heart sprinkles.

Variations

  • Mint extract can be added for a festive touch. Just a half teaspoon is plenty!
  • The recipe can be doubled for a large crowd.
  • I don’t recommend any milk other than dairy for it will effect the taste, you can use half heavy cream though.
  • Add the whole milk and chocolate chips to the slow cooker.
  • Add the vanilla and green food coloring.
  • Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on high for about an hour and a half or until warm.

How to Serve

  • Serve your Grinch crockpot hot chocolate with a generous swirl of whipped cream—whether you make it homemade or use store-bought, it’s sure to be a hit! Top with festive red sprinkles, and for a little extra holiday magic, try heart-shaped sprinkles or classic red sugar crystals.
  • For an even more fun and cozy touch, add marshmallows or a sprinkle of crushed candy canes. These toppings not only look festive but add just the right hint of sweetness and crunch to every sip!
