We often host parties and serve slow cooker hot chocolate or slow cooker apple cider. This crockpot hot buttered rum is on another level. Freshly brewed coffee is combined with vanilla rum, bailey’s irish cream and butterscotch liquor. You won’t want just one mug of this.

What you need:

Ingredients for slow cooker hot buttered rum coffee on a table.
  • Coffee: Make a pot of fresh coffee. You will need 6 cups of coffee (don’t measure with the lines on the cofee maker, those are not cup lines!)
  • Butterscotch Liquor: We use buttershots butterscotch scnapps.
  • Rum: Try to find “vanilla rum”, the brand Blue Chair Bay carries this.
  • For Serving: Top the hot butter rum with whipped cream and crushed butterscotch candies.
  • {The full recipe is in the recipe card below the photos}
  1. Add the coffee to the slow cooker.
  2. Add the buttershots, vanilla rum, and Bailey’s Irish cream.
  3. Stir. This is already pretty warm, so you’ll only need to cook on high for an hour (or so) to heat up.

Sarah’s Notes

  • This will store in the fridge for up to three additional days. Reheat on the stove top or in the microvwave.
  • If left on high for too long, some of the alcohol will cook off (but never all of it).
  • Expecting more people? You can double this in a 6 quart slow cooker.

Offer whipped cream, either in a canister or a bowl of homemade whipped cream, for guests to top their drinks.

    Hi Sarah,

I love your website, I’ve received your recipes for several years. I was wondering if you had any information regarding crock pots leaching lead. I read a post by the Food Babe, she’s an activist, and she discussed the leaching of lead from all ceramic crock pots. I’m in my 60’s, and I have been using ceramic crock pots since my mom cooked for us kids when we were little.

    Sincerely,

    Doug

I don’t have extensive knowledge, but I do know that I would use a newer model that has no cracks in it. I’ve even tested my slow cooker and it was negative.
