These beer brats tasted great! I love how the house smells when I add beer to the crock pot. When the guests arrive they get choose when they want to eat since the slow cooker keeps these brats nice and warm during the game. Did you notice I used bell peppers in the colors of our team?

How to make Slow Cooker Beer Brats:

  • Add bell peppers, onion, garlic and black pepper to the bottom of the slow cooker
  • In a skillet set to medium-high heat, add oil. Brown the brats.
  • Add the brats on top of the peppers and onions.

  • Add a can of your favorite beer. I used Budweiser, that’s my husband’s favorite. He is not a microbrew person.
  • Place the lid on the slow cooker. Cook on HIGH for 3 hours. Serve on buns with desired toppings such as mustard.

I doubled the recipe for 48 Brats put in a roaster added an extra 12oz Fosters Beer but does not cover the brats. I guess the third hour of cooking I will mix to get the brats in the beer, wish me luck itโ€™s for a Super Bowl Party tonight.

  2. Candy says:

I’m not crazy about beer but I do enjoy the Apple Ales , do you think it would be ok to use one of those instead of beer?

    1. Sarah Olson says:

I think that would work great.

  3. Sophie says:

Are these kid friendly? Does the alcohol cook off in a slow cooker?

    1. Sarah Olson says:

From what I found in my research just now is some say it boils out and some don’t. I’d do your own research to be safe.

  4. Katy says:

Can I cook without the onion and bell peppers?

      Yes! Will be fine

  5. Mike Mac says:

Where do you find straight bratwurst? All I can find are curved ones (links). Those look like hotdogs.

    1. Sarah Olson says:

Try looking near the hotdogs. I think I found these at Safeway.

  6. Brittany says:

Did you use precooked brats or Raw brats?

    1. Sarah Olson says:

      Precooked

  7. Lenoria says:

I am not into sports or beer, but I can deal with cooking with it. Also, I love brats with onions and green peppers and this makes my mouth water!!

    1. Sarah Olson says:

I hope you make this Lenoria!

Ooooo… now this is my kind of game day food! ๐Ÿ™‚ You can’t go wrong with brats and beer. But I am beer snob, so I would have to go with one of those craft brews for this recipe. ๐Ÿ˜‰ lol!
