Slow Cooker Potatoes Cabbage and Kielbasa is a one-pot meal full of great flavor!
I’ve been seeing so many recipes with cabbage in them with them because of the low carb craze that is going on. I added potatoes since I am not low carb so if you want to carbo load this recipe is for you!
This recipe turned out far better than I expected. The flavors completely meld together for a perfectly flavored meal. To make this recipe somewhat healthy I found a no nitrate kielbasa. I will be making this recipe again! I think it would be a great recipe for a potluck.
How to make this:
You will need these ingredients:
- Kielbasa sausage
- Russet potatoes
- Cabbage
- White onion
- Salt and pepper
- Dried thyme
- Chicken broth
That’s all you need for this simple meal. I love that it’s mostly fresh ingredients.
How long to cook:
This recipe needs enough time to let the potatoes soften. I cook this recipe for 6 hours on low.
This to me is a complete meal. You have your veggies, potatoes and meat in one pot! Just scoop into serving bowls when you arrive home.
I don’t cook much with cabbage but that is about to change. This meal was heavenly and wouldn’t be the same without the cabbage.
We loved this meal! Such a change from a shredded meat slow cooker recipe. The entire meal is flavored from the kielbasa and the potatoes and cabbage are very tender. I think you’ll love it! Have a great week.

Really tasty. Made a couple changes, left skin on potatoes, added 14.5oz can of diced fire roasted tomatoes, sm can mild green chilies and 4 tablespoons of minced garlic.
Yummy!!!
Dee says
Only thing I’d change are using Yukon gold potatoes instead of russet which work much better if baking. They get to mushy in slow cooking and become more like a sauce in the dish.

Made this today. My 52 year old son really liked it. I’ll be making it again!!!

This is a great recipe, but just FYI you listed that you need a white onion in the description and then mention needing a yellow onion in the actual recipe portion.
Sarah Olson says
So glad you like it! I will fix that.
Brian says
4 hours in everything is still pretty uncooked I had to run this on high to get it done
Sarah Olson says
Try to keep the lid on, every time you open it, it loses heat and takes 45 mins to get back to temperature.
Megan says
Would I be able to add some white mushrooms in with this? Or would they turn to mush in the slow cooker for so long?
Sarah Olson says
You can add them, though I would cut them pretty thick.
Paula says
I put a liner in crockpot but 3 hours into cabbage was burning on the sides. Any suggestions, I took off lif and got burnt leaves out and stirred.
Sarah Olson says
Your slow cooker may cook hot. A few pieces may get toasty on the sides but it should not burn.
Regeanna Shelton says
First time make this can you have beer I don’t handle chicken broth and what else do you add to your cabbage or sausage and onions and bell pepper
Sarah Olson says
Water or vegetable broth.
Geyne says
Can I double the cabbage in the recipe
Sarah Olson says
yes, that will work fine!
Sherri says
This was delicious. Must brown sausage before adding to crockpot it just adds so much smoky flavor. I served it as a side but I could eat it as a full meal, just added a lil hot sauce. Yummmmm. Thank you for sharing.
Jim says
Can I substitute beer for some or all of the broth?
Sarah Olson says
Yes, you can use all beer for the broth if it’s a light beer, if dark, I would do less.
Donna says
Can I cook this on high for half the time ?
Sarah Olson says
You may need more like 4 hours to get the potatoes to tenderize.
Fran says
I’ve made this lots of times and we love it! Tasty and Easy! Do you think I could use boneless pork chops instead of the kielbasa? If so, what seasonings would you add?
Sarah Olson says
Yes! I think that would work good. I would add some salt and pepper to the chops and possibly some dried leaf time.
Crystal says
So good! Made it twice in the last two weeks. Like to double the sausage and cabbage
