Slow Cooker Crack Chicken has everything that is good and addicting in it! Filled with bacon, cheese, cream cheese, and ranch dressing mix.

Who doesn’t love a recipe with cream cheese in it! If you have extra cream cheese also try my olive garden chicken pasta or artichoke mushroom chicken.

I finally got around to trying this Slow Cooker Crack Chicken recipe. My neighbor told me about this crack chicken, though she makes instant pot crack chicken.

This crack chicken recipe is a creation by Shelly from the website Cookies and Cups. I am so glad I gave this recipe a try the flavors go so good together and go great over white rice which helps take away a bit of the saltiness.

How to make Crack Chicken:

I start with chicken thighs instead of breasts. I feel the thighs have more moisture, and the overall dish turns out decadent with the thighs. I also only use one ranch packet to cut back on the sodium.

You will need these ingredients:

  • Chicken thighs – trim off excess fat
  • Ranch dressing seasoning mix (can use dip mix if that’s what you have)
  • Cream cheese
  • Cheddar cheese
  • Cooked bacon
  • Green onions
cooked chicken, ranch dressing and cream cheese in slow cooker.
  • Add the chicken to the slow cooker.
  • Top with the ranch packet and cream cheese. Wait to add the other ingredients.

How long do I cook?

  • Place the lid on the slow cooker
  • Cook on low for 7 hours and do not open the lid during the cooking time.

  • After the cooking time is up, shred the chicken with 2 forks. I do this right in the slow cooker, no need to remove the chicken and dirty a plate.
  • Add the cooked bacon then top with the cheddar cheese. Place the lid back on to let the cheese melt. Sprinkle over green onions if desired.

What to serve this with

  • Over white rice (my favorite option)
  • Eat it as is if you are on a low carb or keto diet
  • Over-toasted hamburger buns
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Inside of baked potatoes
  • With crackers; serve as a dip
  • Add a salad on the side with any of the above options

This dish is so rich and creamy! I am dreaming about making it again this week. Such a fun recipe to try for a Sunday dinner or even to entertain guests. Give this recipe a try and let me know how you like it. Have a great week.

  • 1/2 cup sliced green onions

Instructions

We just checked our son into a drug rehab clinic last night. This recipe is delicious. But please change the name of it. We have enough glorification of drugs in our television, movies, and other media. We do not need it in our cooking recipes, too.

STFU Snowflake, no one is changing the name of a recipe to accommodate your easily offended a$$.

    3. Jonna says:

The term “crack” is generally referred to as something super awesome. Everyone always called my husband a crack mechanic because he is the best. My friend is a crack plumber, he is the best (recently fixed my plumbing issues, he is the best). I’m sorry about your son. But this recipe name is everywhere out there on many sites. You’d have to contact each one. I wish you the best in your son’s healing.

Im sorry for your troubles, I have issues as well. Please don’t let rude comments get to you, it’s easy to be critical from afar. God bless and

My kids are grown now but will request this if they are coming to visit. I use chicken thighs and use less cream cheese. About a block and a half instead of two. Highly recommended. I serve over rice with green beans on the side. It’s also really good between dinner rolls. I use the Hawaiian dinner rolls to make little sandwiches with it.So good!

If it fits, it will do fine. I think it will be a tight squeeze.

  7. Ann says:

How long should I cook if using frozen chicken breast?

    1. Sarah Olson says:

I am unsure. Some studies suggest not cook frozen meats in the slow cooker.

      1. Anonymous says:

So she may not be allowed to say it but I suggest it. I prefer the moisture that comes from frozen. But honestly, do you really go by times given by anyone even if not frozen? I use it as a guideline bi they are all so different. Mine runs very hot. Well the two with a rubber seal do and I have one that doesn’t so I’ve had to learn my own times but I like a guideline I do make it a habit to freeze the meat on purpose first bc personally I feel like I like the natural moisture it gives without having to add anything to some things. Really, that’s beside the point bc unfortunately they are all different. All of mine run really hot. Then I have my bf that doesn’t have a rubber seal so it takes forever! And doesn’t hold moisture. I f I have to run his too i usually wrap plastic wrap over it. Struggle is real lol. Point is, great recipe, may have to adjust using your best judgement and I’ll bet you have great judgement. Listen to your angels saying ‘that’s right, just enough, little bit more’ this one’s hard to mess up but chicken broth may be your best friend here. Sorry for the book I’m feeling some kind of way today and I’m just excited about maki g it again

    2. Angela says:

It does really well with frozen chicken. That’s what I always use. Cooking time doesn’t really change that much.

  8. Edwina says:

    Can you freeze crack chicken?

    1. Sarah Olson says:

      Yes, this freezes well.

      1. Gabby says:

What are the instructions for thawing/preparing from frozen?

      2. Sarah Olson says:

You can put it all in a freezer bag and freeze for up to three months. Let thaw in the fridge, then cook as directed.

It doesn’t taste bad but 16oz of cream cheese is waaayyyy too much. After it was done I added another half pound of chicken I cooked in a pan because it looked more like queso than crack chicken. It was still too thick. Like paste. Even added a cup of chicken broth to try to thin it out a little…helped some but I’d definitely cut the cream cheese down to one 8oz brick.

Eventually added more broth, some lime juice and some chopped cherry peppers and it was awesome

    1. Joyce says:

I’ve seen other recipes that add 1/2 of broth or white wine and 1 block of cream cheese, this is how I make. I personally cut the recipe in half myself as there are only 2 of us.

    2. Anonymous says:

I always use froze meats because it always comes out perfect I feel because it adds its own needed moisture. Always. I literally will make it a point to freeze it first. Works for me anyways and I don’t fix what isn’t broken lol but I’ve already gauged my ow time with my own crockpots.
