Slow Cooker Crack Chicken has everything that is good and addicting in it! Filled with bacon, cheese, cream cheese, and ranch dressing mix.

Who doesn’t love a recipe with cream cheese in it! If you have extra cream cheese also try my olive garden chicken pasta or artichoke mushroom chicken.

I finally got around to trying this Slow Cooker Crack Chicken recipe. My neighbor told me about this crack chicken, though she makes instant pot crack chicken.

This crack chicken recipe is a creation by Shelly from the website Cookies and Cups. I am so glad I gave this recipe a try the flavors go so good together and go great over white rice which helps take away a bit of the saltiness.

How to make Crack Chicken:

I start with chicken thighs instead of breasts. I feel the thighs have more moisture, and the overall dish turns out decadent with the thighs. I also only use one ranch packet to cut back on the sodium.

You will need these ingredients:

  • Chicken thighs – trim off excess fat
  • Ranch dressing seasoning mix (can use dip mix if that’s what you have)
  • Cream cheese
  • Cheddar cheese
  • Cooked bacon
  • Green onions
cooked chicken, ranch dressing and cream cheese in slow cooker.
  • Add the chicken to the slow cooker.
  • Top with the ranch packet and cream cheese. Wait to add the other ingredients.

How long do I cook?

  • Place the lid on the slow cooker
  • Cook on low for 7 hours and do not open the lid during the cooking time.

  • After the cooking time is up, shred the chicken with 2 forks. I do this right in the slow cooker, no need to remove the chicken and dirty a plate.
  • Add the cooked bacon then top with the cheddar cheese. Place the lid back on to let the cheese melt. Sprinkle over green onions if desired.

What to serve this with

  • Over white rice (my favorite option)
  • Eat it as is if you are on a low carb or keto diet
  • Over-toasted hamburger buns
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Inside of baked potatoes
  • With crackers; serve as a dip
  • Add a salad on the side with any of the above options

This dish is so rich and creamy! I am dreaming about making it again this week. Such a fun recipe to try for a Sunday dinner or even to entertain guests. Give this recipe a try and let me know how you like it. Have a great week.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. boneless skinless chicken thighs, (trim off excess fat if desired)
  • 1 oz. packet ranch seasoning mix
  • 16 oz. cream cheese
  • 8 slices bacon, (sliced, cooked and drained)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced green onions

Instructions

  • Add the chicken thighs to the slow cooker. Sprinkle over the ranch seasoning mix. Place the cream cheese on top of the chicken.
  • Cover and cook on LOW for 7 hours without opening the lid during the cooking time.

  • Serve over rice and sprinkle over the green onions. Enjoy! Other great ways to serve is over a baked potato or on sandwich rolls.

So gross!!! Way too much cream cheese and cheddar cheese. I had to toss it and remake it using homemade buttermilk ranch instead of a ranch packet and 4oz of cream cheese and 3/4 cup of cheddar cheese. Came out much better by not following this recipe.

Absolutely delicious! I used 4 chicken breast and followed the recipe as I have made before I did add a jalapeño as suggested to make it spicy and fiesta Ranch packet ,my son absolutely loved it. He is a very picky eater and it was delicious. Had it last night for dinner and again tonight. I don’t understand the soggy comments as mine turned out perfectly every time.

I’m in the process of cooking this and my cream cheese has turned into water. My chicken looks like its sitting in milk. I even used 6 lbs of chicken. I thought there wouldn’t be enough cream cheese. Now it just looks like soup. I don’t understand. I don’t even know what to do with it at this point.

    1. Sarah Olson says:

The recipe comes together when you shred the chicken and stir. It’s one of my most popular recipes.

Laura, did you put the cream cheese on top of the chicken breast? I had no issue at all. I put the chicken breast in the crockpot first then added the seasoning packet on top and then put the two blocks of cut up cream cheese on top of that, that may be the difference. I’m not sure. Hopefully helpful.

I used an Italian seasoning packet and egg noodles since I didn’t have ranch seasoning or rice. It was delicious! My husband loved it. It was so fast to put together too. Thank you!

Cut your cream cheese in half and add some peas or edamame. We had it with rice but I believe it would be better over pasta. Or just on its own.

The only reason im commenting is because I seen several negative comments and disagree. This is actually really good. I make it all the time and use it as a dip with tortilla chips. The whole family enjoys it. 🙂

Same!! Not sure why the negativity ‍♀️

I have made this multiple times. My family loves it!!I use real bacon bits instead and let everybody add shred cheese amt.I use breasts instead.I wonder if there’s other options to reduce sodium?????

    1. Shlynn says:

I make my own ranch seasoning which helps a lot with the sodium. There are many “copycat hidden valley ranch seasoning” recipes. 🙂

  8. Simone says:

After reading reviews about the blandness I decided to find a ranch dressing recipe and add only the dry ingredients. I did not add any wet ingredients like the sour cream and buttermilk because there’s already a lot of sauce in it.

    I added:
    1-2 cloves of fresh garlic’s
    Salt and pepper to taste
    2 tbsp fresh chives
    1/4 cup fresh Italian parsley

Optional ingredients (I did use all of them)

    Cayenne pepper-to taste
    Fresh Dill- to taste
    Paprika l- to taste
    Oregano- to taste

I did decide to add one optional wet item
    Tobasco sauce-to taste

    The optional liquid ingredients are

    White vinegar-to taste
    Worcestershire sauce-to taste
    Buttermilk- to taste
    Sour cream- to taste
    Mayonnaise- to taste

I also decided to increase the amount of cayenne pepper, added red pepper flakes , and added White pepper

I think adding more dominant seasonings made it flavorful, not bland anymore

    1. Lisa says:

The recipe calls for a 1 oz. package of ranch seasoning. There is no sour cream or buttermilk in this recipe or any other crack chicken recipe I have ever seen.

      1. Shlynn says:

Homemade ranch seasoning uses those ingredients…

Well, I’m a foodie from New Orleans… and on the keto diet for last 5 months and 82 lbs of lost weight.
It’s flavorful, especially with a little Tony’s or Slap ya Momma.
I did do it with chicken breasts instead of thighs to soak more of the flavor up.
    4 out of 5 stars.
