This Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Dip is made with rotisserie chicken, ranch dressing, cream cheese, cheddar, and buffalo sauce for a creamy game-day dip. We love serving this dip the entire football season.

Before adding this Buffalo Chicken Dip to the blog, I wanted it to be absolutely perfect. It’s rich, creamy, and has just the right amount of heat from the Buffalo sauce. Using rotisserie chicken adds incredible flavor and saves time, too.

This dip always gets rave reviews and disappears fast — there’s never any left at the end of the night!

Ingredients for buffalo chicken dip on a table.

Key Ingredients

Rotisserie Chicken: Skip having to bake and flavor your own chicken and purchase a whole rotisserie cooked chicken. Or you can use any leftover chicken you may have on hand.

Shredded Cheese: Shredded cheese adds a creamy texture to the dip.

Ranch Dressing: Adds more flavor and helps create the buffalo ranch flavor.

Hot Sauce: I like to use Frank’s Red Hot sauce, but you can use whatever brand you prefer.

Cream Cheese: Combines with shredded cheese for the perfect amount of cheesy goodness.

How to Make Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Dip

  1. Add the chicken, Buffalo sauce, ranch, cream cheese, and cheese to your slow cooker.
  2. Cook until the dip is hot and creamy, giving it a stir once or twice.
  3. Top with green onions and keep on warm so it’s ready for dipping.

Sarah’s Tips & Variations

Other Meat Options: You can use canned chicken or even leftover turkey instead of rotisserie.

Blue Cheese Dressing: If your crowd loves blue cheese, swap in blue cheese dressing for ranch

Thicker: If you want a thicker dip, cut the ranch dressing in half.

How to Serve Buffalo Dip

Crunchy snacks and breads: Tortilla Chips are the most popular dipping option. Though you can also use potato chips, Triscuits, or slices of baguette — they hold up well and give that perfect salty contrast to the rich Buffalo flavor.

Fresh options: Add a few lighter choices like carrot and celery sticks, mini sweet peppers, bell pepper strips, or cauliflower florets. They are a great option for those who are eating low-carb or lower-calorie diets.

Blue Cheese Option: For blue cheese lovers, set out a bowl of blue cheese crumbles for guests to add to their own servings if desired.

How to Cook Chicken For Buffalo Dip

If you want to cook your own chicken for this recipe, you can! Cook about 3 chicken breasts on the stove-top in a skillet or use my slow cooker shredded chicken recipe. Shred each chicken breast with two forks and proceed with the remaining cooking steps.

How to Store and Reheat

If you have any leftovers, place them in airtight containers and refrigerate for up to four days. Our favorite way to reheat is in the oven or air fryer so it gets hot and melty, but of course you can microwave.

  • 12 oz. Franks Red Hot Buffalo Sauce
  • 16 oz. Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing
  • 8 oz. cream cheese
  • 2 cups shredded cheese, I use Sargento 4 cheese blend
  • green onions for topping the dip

Serving ideas for dipping:

  • Celery Sticks
  • Cauliflower florets
  • Bell pepper strips
  • Corn Tortilla Chips
  • Sliced baguette
  • Triscuits
  • Potato Chips

Instructions

  • Add the chicken, hot sauce, ranch, cream cheese and cheddar. Stir.
  • Cover and cook for 2 hours on high. Stir 1-2 times during the cooking time, the cheese tends to stick to the edges.
  • Top the dip with green onions if desired.
  • Serve with desired dippers and enjoy!
  • Switch the slow cooker to warm for your party, keep an eye on it for it still can scorch on warm. Stir often.

Sarah’s Notes

Baking Instructions: If you run out of time to slow cook you can bake instead. Place in a preheated 350 degree oven and bake uncovered for 30 mins or until hot and bubbly.

Two 12.5 oz cans of chicken (drained) can be used as well. I look for lower sodium ones. DELICIOUS and I usually have them on hand.
