Why You’ll Love These Crock Pot Baked Apples
This recipe puts a whole new spin on baked apples and instead of peeling, slicing, and adding other ingredients to the slow cooker, you’ll carve out the apples to make a bed for tasty granola topped with melted butter and maple syrup.
If you’re looking for a quick and easy delicious recipe that’s light on ingredients, quick on prep time, and done cooking in as little as a couple of hours – these slow cooker baked apples are the way to go. Make them to wow guests or for the family to enjoy over a relaxing weekend.
Recipe Ingredients
- Apples – Any variety of apple works, I use medium-sized Gala. Large apples work well but may take up more space.
- Granola – The granola is just the perfect crispy topping since the slow cooker can’t brown things.
- Melted salted butter – Makes the apples extra decadent.
- Maple syrup – or honey works here, too, for this delicious dessert! (The full recipe is in the recipe card below, after the photos).
How to make Slow Cooker Baked Apples:
Step One – Cut the tops off the apples with a knife, then gut them with a melon baller. If you don’t have a melon baller, a round measuring teaspoon will do the trick. Leave the apples unpeeled.
Step Two – Add the granola to the center of the apples.
Step Three – Drizzle over the melted butter.
Step Four – Pour over the maple syrup.
Step Five – Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on HIGH for 2.5 – 3 hours. Serve the cooked apples as is or with the suggestions mentioned below and enjoy!
How to serve these apples?
- Put one apple (or half if they are large) in a small bowl and top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Serve warm for the best taste.
- Turn it into cinnamon apples recipe by adding ground cinnamon on top or mixing it with the butter before cooking. Brown sugar is a great addition as well.
- These can also be a delicious side dish to serve alongside a main course meal. It’s the perfect dessert that can be enjoyed with breakfast (think pancakes)!

I did this, they sat for 2 hours and my apples are brown? Dont look very good lol
Sarah Olson says
What kind of apples did you use?
Kacy says
Do you think that you could use oats instead of granola?
Sarah Olson says
You could, but you would want to add flavoring to them 🙂
Sandra says
Nice recipe. Can these be frozen and served later? How would you re-heat them?
Thank you kindly.
bev stockwood says
how much water do you put in the slow cooker
Sarah Olson says
none, the butter is enough moisture for this recipe. And the apples add a lot of moisture too.
DeeDee says
My crockpot instructions tells me at least 1 cup of liquid must be put in the crockpot before cooking.
Sarah Olson says
You can add water if you prefer, though I’ve never had a problem.

Quick question about making these for breakfast: did you put the slow cooker on a timer, get up early, or were you able to set it on low for most of the night? My slow cooker doesn’t have a timer so it would be good to know how feasible this would be for me. Thanks!
Sarah Olson says
I got up early 🙂 It would be too long to set them on low. I hope that helps.
Diana says
Thank you! That does help.
Miriam Thompson says
You can get a timer at a hardware store (like you use for lights). It’s a bit cumbersome, but it works
CJ Muncy says
can also wrap in foil and do over hot grill while cookin out.
Gaya Cooper says
I’m gonna try this with a mixture of Bear Naked Cinnamon granola & Bear Naked’s new granola called Sea Salt Caramel Apple! Can’t go wrong with more apple flavor!
Sarah Olson says
That sounds awesome Gaya! I’ll have to look for that flavor, sounds so good!

I have that only with the s’mores flavor… Its a good way to use it up! finally something easy and idiot proof. (me being the idiot) instead of butter can u swap that out for oil? (im only asking because i cant eat butter anymore)
Sarah Olson says
Yes that will work fine!

These look like they will be wonderful and I love baked apples but don’t do them much in summer(don’t like to heat up kitchen) but with this way I can have them all year!!!!
Cathy Hanner says
I loved this idea and couldn’t wait to try. I didn’t have the Bare Naked Granola, but I had oat and honey granola bars that I just crushed up and added a little cinnamon and sugar to to mixture. Oh my gosh, sooo good. thank you for this idea…
