What is Boursin Cheese?

With a texture similar to cream cheese, Boursin cheese (often called gournay cheese) is considered a soft cheese that comes in many flavors. Think of your favorite fresh herbs like fresh chives and garlic combined with a few other ingredients like chicken cutlets. No wonder this creamy Boursin chicken recipe is among the top delicious recipes!

If you want all-natural ingredients in this recipe, you can make homemade boursin cheese.

Ingredients

Ingredients for boursin cheese chicken pasta on a table.
  • Chicken: Boneless skinless chicken breasts are slowly cooked and then shredded.
  • Orecchiette Pasta: Like seashells, this pasta pairs perfectly with Boursin cheese chicken pasta. This thick pasta holds well to this creamy sauce and chicken.
  • Chicken Broth: Helps cook the chicken while adding an additional chicken flavor.
  • Heavy Cream: Provides a creamy sauce texture and herb flavor to the cheese sauce.
  • Boursin Cheese: You’ll use two packages to give this recipe a rich flavor of garlic and fine herbs. You won’t believe how this melts into a creamy Boursin sauce.
  • Seasonings: Garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
  • Parmesan Cheese: For serving.

I made this tonite. Great flavor. When I added the cream at the end I did stir in two teaspoons of sherry. It just added a little something to the flavor

This turned out great & really enjoyed it last night. What do you suggest adding when heating back up? It seems too dry & was thinking alittle more cream or chicken broth?

    1. Sarah Olson says:

You can add either! Or even just milk.

      1. Deb says:

        Thanks

  3. J says:

Would your recommend the sun dried tomatoes in a jar or the dried kind in the package?

    1. Sarah Olson says:

The jar would be better I think!

  4. Mitzi says:

What is Boursin cheese and who is it made by ?

  5. Jill says:

Any thoughts about how it would be using 10.4 ounces of laughing cow cheese which is to make it a little lower and fat.

    1. Sarah Olson says:

I think it would work fine. Though if it was me, I would stir it in with the pasta instead of cooking it with the chicken.

  6. Lee Spall says:

Can this be frozen for another day?

  7. Anita Krsak says:

Can I use something besides heavy cream for a lower-fat version?

    1. Sarah Olson says:

I would try a fat free half and half. Or use milk.

  8. Barbara says:

What about adding the uncooked pasta to the pot about an hour before it is finished? Or just using cream cheese with the addition of garlic and chives?

    1. Debbie says:

I would love to know about skipping cooking the pasta and adding it uncooked to the slow cooker too! Makes it so much easier- hence the point of using a slow cooker. Thank you!

      1. Sarah Olson says:

I do not recommend doing this, yes it works. But the pasta can be chalky and gummy.

  9. Pamela Blankenship says:

Can I cook the pasta ahead and keep it in the refrigerator until ready to add to the chicken with the cream? I would like to take this to a pot luck but not sure if I should add the cooked pasta at home before I go or if I should cook pasta and add it at the pot luck location. I do not want the pasta to be overcooked.

  10. Deb says:

    Sounds fantastic, hence 5 stars….
Making this for tonight & want to add baby spinach. How much & when do I add?

    1. Sarah Olson says:

I would add into the chicken with the pasta at the end.
