So happy I found this recipe, so easy to make and tastes so yummy, and not bland at all, I found the spices perfect, especially with the added cayenne pepper for that little bit of heat, my family loved it!

If you want more cabbage recipes, then I’ve got the recipe for you! Cabbage actually tastes good; it has a great texture when cooked down. This kielbasa and cabbage recipe is a keeper; it’s easy to throw together and very filling. We know cooking with kielbasa in the slow cooker works well, since we love Crockpot Red Beans and Rice, Slow Cooker Pierogies, and Kielbasa Potato Soup.
Key Ingredients
Kielbasa: Find this near the bacon at the store. I can sometimes find no nitrate variety to make it healthier.
Cabbage: Cooks down amazingly in the slow cooker – it melts in your mouth, it gets so tender.
Potatoes: Cubed Russet Potatoes hold up well in this. If you want low-carb, simply skip these.
Seasonings and Broth: This is a simple recipe; just add chicken broth, salt, pepper and cayenne pepper.

How to Make Kielbasa, Potatoes, and Cabbage
- Brown the kielbasa for extra flavor.
- Add everything to the crockpot and let it cook low and slow.
- Stir and serve once the potatoes are tender.

How long to cook?
This recipe needs enough time for the potatoes to soften. I cook this recipe for 6 hours on low.
What to Serve with this?
Bread: Cornbread or garlic bread is great for sopping up the cooking broth.
Other Sides: Sliced tomatoes or mac and cheese are great choices.

Tips & Variations
Meat Swap: A full pound of cooked bacon is a great swap, or you can use summer sausage or andoullie sausage.
Red Cabbage: Use red instead of green; it’s slightly sweeter.
Carrots: Add a pound of sliced carrots – it’s a popular addition.

Does the Kielbasa have to be browned?
No! You can skip browning the kielbasa in any slow cooker recipe. Browning adds some depth of flavor, but it isn’t necessary.
Does this freeze well?
This meal can be frozen, but the potatoes may change texture after being thawed.

Hi, what kind of cabbage do you use? In Holland there are many types of cabbage.
So happy I found this recipe, so easy to make and tastes so yummy, and not bland at all, I found the spices perfect, especially with the added cayenne pepper for that little bit of heat, my family loved it!
Can I freeze it?
Potatoes don’t freeze very well in my opinion.
Waiting for this to finish cooking but right off the bat I know it’s going to be bland. I would argue to season AFTER it cooks. Why? Because cabbage is a watery food and it washes away! Also, I precooked everything in a pot because it didn’t all fit in my crockpot so I cooked it down to fit. But kuddos for trying.
It will be great, it won’t be washed away.
Too bland for my family’s liking.
Smelled so good and was easy to throw together, but sadly the potatoes weren’t cooked through despite following the directions 🙁 I cooked it for an extra hour and the potatoes were still not fully soft. So disappointing!
I will be making this recipe in a week or two! I will be making just a couple of changes: maybe put in two Kielbasa’s sometimes, add carrots & parsnips & instead of russet potatoes, I will use yellow gold (we can yelllow gold potatoes).
Somewhere down the road I would like to try one of the other comments: tomato sauce & diced tomatoes – I bet that would taste delicious.
Rotel is amazing in this
I made this last night, the only changes I made was making it on the stove instead of the slow cooker, and I used the entire head of (a small) cabbage. It was awesome!
Fortunately, where I live, fresh kielbasa is readily available so I plan to use that. I have made a similar recipe but I didn’t use chicken broth, I used some tomato paste and a little white wine. I will try your recipe soon! Looks appetizing.
Would love to try this! Do you think I could use tomato sauce and diced tomatoes instead of the chicken broth to give it a more traditional, Italian taste and appearance? Thank you!
That sounds like a great idea!!
