Slow Cooker Crack Chicken has everything that is good and addicting in it! Filled with bacon, cheese, cream cheese, and ranch dressing mix.
Who doesn’t love a recipe with cream cheese in it! If you have extra cream cheese also try my olive garden chicken pasta or artichoke mushroom chicken.
I finally got around to trying this Slow Cooker Crack Chicken recipe. My neighbor told me about this crack chicken, though she makes instant pot crack chicken.
This crack chicken recipe is a creation by Shelly from the website Cookies and Cups. I am so glad I gave this recipe a try the flavors go so good together and go great over white rice which helps take away a bit of the saltiness.
How to make Crack Chicken:
I start with chicken thighs instead of breasts. I feel the thighs have more moisture, and the overall dish turns out decadent with the thighs. I also only use one ranch packet to cut back on the sodium.
You will need these ingredients:
- Chicken thighs – trim off excess fat
- Ranch dressing seasoning mix (can use dip mix if that’s what you have)
- Cream cheese
- Cheddar cheese
- Cooked bacon
- Green onions
- Add the chicken to the slow cooker.
- Top with the ranch packet and cream cheese. Wait to add the other ingredients.
How long do I cook?
- Place the lid on the slow cooker
- Cook on low for 7 hours and do not open the lid during the cooking time.
- After the cooking time is up, shred the chicken with 2 forks. I do this right in the slow cooker, no need to remove the chicken and dirty a plate.
- Add the cooked bacon then top with the cheddar cheese. Place the lid back on to let the cheese melt. Sprinkle over green onions if desired.
What to serve this with
- Over white rice (my favorite option)
- Eat it as is if you are on a low carb or keto diet
- Over-toasted hamburger buns
- Mashed potatoes
- Inside of baked potatoes
- With crackers; serve as a dip
- Add a salad on the side with any of the above options
This dish is so rich and creamy! I am dreaming about making it again this week. Such a fun recipe to try for a Sunday dinner or even to entertain guests. Give this recipe a try and let me know how you like it. Have a great week.

Slow Cooker Crack Chicken
Ingredients:
- 2 lbs. boneless skinless chicken thighs (trim off excess fat if desired)
- 1 oz. packet ranch seasoning mix
- 16 oz. cream cheese
- 8 slices bacon (sliced, cooked and drained)
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup sliced green onions
Instructions:
- Add the chicken thighs to the slow cooker. Sprinkle over the ranch seasoning mix. Place the cream cheese on top of the chicken.

- Serve over rice and sprinkle over the green onions. Enjoy! Other great ways to serve is over a baked potato or on sandwich rolls.

This was yummy…But I found this to be pretty thick…can a splash of chicken broth be added?
Sarah Olson says
Yes, that will work well.
Erica says
Can I cook this on high for less time?
Sarah Olson says
Yes, 3.5-4 hours will work great.
Melanie Whitener says
Does chicken breast dry out? I don’t have
thighs on hand.
Sarah Olson says
I’ve used chicken breasts with this recipe, works well! Not dry.
Cindy says
I always use chicken breast and it’s delicious every time! ~Enjoy~
Trish says
It was so salty j couldn’t eat it
Patty says
What made it salty? Maybe the bacon? Ranch really isn’t salty but I don’t eat salty foods but was going to make this without bacon.Really wondering what you think made it salty so I don’t do it.
Sarah Olson says
Ranch mix is extremely high in sodium, I would do a half-packet if you are sensitive.

For those looking for something else to serve this with:
I’ve been caught up in that viral tiktock crunch crescent roll thing and producing different versions of it lately
Your recipie for crockpot crack chicken is my very most favorite version I’ve made
I tweaked your recipe by adding 2tbsp butter and 1 1/2 tsp chicken better than bullion dissolved in 6oz water, plus a bit of lawry’s, pinch of thyme and rosemary to the chicken before placing the cream cheese on top
After your whole crack chicken recipe is done cooking: pre heat oven to 375° F
1. grease a 12in skillet pan(cast iron and olive oil work best) place a small bowl in middle of pan
2. Place 2 cans crescent rolls around bowl(long corner over the top side, wide part barely touching bottom of bowl) overlapping to make a good crust bottom if you can
3. Layer cheddar slices around bottom of crescent roll ring then add crockpot crack chicken, layer with more cheese if desired
4. Carefully remove bowl by getting a silicone/rubber spatula under then in the bowl to lift out (it is tricky)
5. Bring the corner of the crescent rolls down to the bottom edge and tuck if you can
6. Egg wash the top of crescent ring… I add a bit of onion powder, sesame seeds and corse kosher salt to the top and it makes it taste like a fried flaky pretzel!!
7. Bake at 375F for 20-25mins
Feel free to develop this into a legible recipe if you like I don’t need credit for it, im a cook by feel kinda mom, but as far as I know nobody else has a recipe for crescent ring crack chicken so you can make it a recipe others can follow it’s yours!
Enjoy!

How about serving on nachos?
Mike says
Can I use sour cream instead of cream cheese? Or will that ruin the consistency?
Sarah Olson says
I would add it later, it may separate. It will still be good though.
Joyce says
Wow. So very wonderful!
DebDah says
I just made this and it is amazing. I only used one block of cream cheese and added some chicken broth so it would be a little more like a stew. Delicious!
Marc says
Hi,
In the slow cooker crack chicken what if anything I can substitute for the ranch mix? I hate ranch.
Sarah Olson says
You could try an italian dressing seasoning packet or an onion soup mix packet instead.
Kristi says
My husband hates ranch too but he likes this recipe.
Nunya says
