Why this recipe works
It can be tricky to cook ribs with perfect tenderness while maintaining flavorful juices. By using your crock pot and my recipe, there’s no doubt that you are just a few hours away from fork-tender country ribs. I like to use just a few warm seasonings like chili powder and garlic powder. I also use brown sugar to help sweeten the rub and sauce just a bit.
These country style pork ribs can be paired with just about any side dish, but you can’t go wrong with a nice helping of mashed potatoes and freshly cooked green beans (try my slow cooker green beans and bacon recipe!. Crockpot recipes like this take the guesswork out of how to slow-cook ribs and let you carry on your day.
Recipe Ingredients
- Pork Ribs: I recommend using 3-4 lbs. of country-style pork ribs. You can use bone-in or boneless pork ribs.
- Pork Rub: Kosher salt, black pepper, brown sugar, chili powder, garlic powder, and onion powder are combined to create a mouth-watering rub for the ribs.
- White Onion: This will be finely diced and added just before cooking time starts.
- Barbecue Sauce: Just a cup will do, but you can always add more. We LOVE Sweet Baby Rays barbecue sauce or we use this homemade barbecue sauce recipe.
Step-by-Step Directions
Step One – In a small bowl add the brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, salt and pepper to make a spice rub.
Step Two – Add the country style ribs to the slow cooker and sprinkle this mixture over the ribs.
Step Three – Drizzle over the BBQ sauce and sprinkle over the onions.
Step Four – Cover and cook on LOW for 6 hours or until the ribs are fork tender. Serve immediately and enjoy!

- You can also create a bbq sauce mixture to drizzle on top of the ribs just before serving.
Recipe FAQs
Although these flavorful ribs are made as is, you can spice them up by adding red pepper flakes, add a bit more smokiness by adding liquid smoke, or use a smoky barbecue sauce. You can also use your favorite barbecue sauce flavor.
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to four days. They can easily be reheated in the oven or the microwave.
It depends on the size of your slow cooker. I recommend using 3-4 pounds of ribs. If you use more, you’ll need to adjust the cooking time.
Of course! You can easily turn this into a boneless pork ribs recipe; just follow it as is. There is no need to use cooking spray, as the juice from the ribs and sauce will be enough.

Family loves this and has asked to have these once a week. Simply delicious.
First time trying this and I followed the instructions only I used boneless pork ribs and I’m not sure if it was done right but there seems to be a lot of liquid in the Crock-Pot with the ribs. They look nothing like the picture but there’s good flavoring through the pork rib
Can I use beef ribs instead of pork?
Yes, beef ribs are great in this recipe.
OUTSTANDING !!!!! 5 STAR !!
