Yoshida teriyaki sauce has been used in my house since I was a kid! We usually used it for grilled chicken, and I thought, why not throw it all in the crockpot!

This chicken tastes just like the irresistible mall-style chicken—perfectly sweet and savory over rice! Thanks to the crockpot, it’s an easy dinner with incredibly tender, flavorful results.

Key Ingredients

  • Chicken – We use boneless, skinless chicken thighs because they cook up well in teriyaki-style dishes and shred up well.
  • Sauce – We are using the popular Yoshida’s Original Gourmet Sauce. This has a teriyaki soy flavor, I think it’s the perfect blend of flavors, which is why it’s always been so popular.

How to make Yoshida’s Chicken (in 2 easy steps!)

  1. Combine the two ingredients directly in your slow cooker.
  2. Let it simmer low and slow until the chicken is perfectly tender.

Tips & Variations

  • Chicken Swap: Though chicken thighs are our go-to, you can use boneless chicken breasts and still have great results.
  • Add Vegetables: You can add mushrooms, onions, carrots or sugar snap peas for more heartiness.
  • Hawaiian Twist: Add pineapple to make this have island flavors.
  • Trim the chicken: Chicken thighs can be fatty, we like to trim them up with kitchen shears.

Ways to Serve Chicken with Yoshida Sauce:

  • The best way to serve is over steamed white rice, or if you have the ingredients, make fried rice.
  • Other options are serving with lo mein noodles or even egg noodles.
  • Add a stir-fry vegetable for a complete meal! (We love the frozen packs of veggies).

Where to Buy Yoshida’s Sauce

Even though the sauce is still popular, it can be hard to find. You can order on Amazon, or find it at Costco or Walmart (near the sauces).

I tried this recipe and I have to say it was really, really good. Unlike a lot of bottled sauces, Mr. Yoshidaโ€™s Gourmet Sauce isnโ€™t overly salty at all โ€“ it has a wonderful, balanced flavor that everyone in my family loved. I served it over white rice, which soaked up the sauce perfectly.

One little trick I did: I wrapped a sweet potato in foil and laid it on top of the chicken so it steamed without getting drenched in sauce. Worked like a charm and added a nice sweet contrast.

    A couple notes:
โ€ข The sauce is pretty thin straight out of the crockpot. Next time Iโ€™ll whisk in a little cornstarch slurry at the end to thicken it up.
โ€ข Super simple dump-and-go recipe โ€“ perfect for busy days. Toss everything in before work and dinner is ready when you walk in the door.

I couldnโ€™t find Yoshidaโ€™s sauce in any stores near me, so I ordered it on Amazon. It came in two huge bottles โ€“ one bottle is easily enough for two batches (plenty left over!). They also make a Sweet & Spicy Teriyaki version that Iโ€™m definitely grabbing next time.

This oneโ€™s going straight into the regular rotation. Easy, tasty, and practically zero effort. Highly recommend!

This sounds so delicious!! Question: would I add the pineapple at the beginning with the chicken and sauce? And, drained or undrained!

    1. Sarah Olson says:

Drained! You can do either adding at the beginning or end. Though if you add at the beginning it will be dark in color.

Omigoodness! Have to make this. I get the big bottle at Costco, so that would be about 3 cups of sauce for 3 pounds, 2 cups for 2 pounds, and 1-1/2 cups for 1 pound?

    1. Sarah Olson says:

      Yes. That sounds right!
