Recipe Ingredients
- Canned Tomatoes: Canned peeled tomatoes provide the base for this sauce, offering convenience without sacrificing flavor.
- Onion: Adds depth and sweetness to the sauce as they slowly cook down.
- Butter: Salted butter always enhances whatever it’s added to and in the case of this sauce, it adds to it’s creaminess. (You can also use unsalted butter.)
- Seasonings: A combination of kosher salt, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder adds layers of flavor to the sauce.
Step-by-Step Directions
Step One – Add everything to the slow cooker.
Step Two – Cover and cook on LOW for 6 hours or on HIGH for 4 hours. Stir once if you are home to incorporate the butter into the sauce. To serve, take a potato masher (or back of a wooden spoon) and crush the tomato mixture. You can serve this with or without the onions if desired. Enjoy!

Since you mentioned “easy”, why not 2 cans of Pureed Tomatoes? Save time by not having to attack it with a potato masher.
Also, would this work with meatloaf or too buttery?
You could use pureed tomatoes; I like it a little chunky though. I think this would be good with meatloaf!
Couldn’t the onions be quartered and thickly sliced?
Yes, pretty much any way would work great.
I want MEAT with my.pasta so will include at least a pound of ground Beef or Pork….plus about 6 additional spices. And WHY whole tomatoes? Why not diced or sliced?
