One thing I love about living in Oregon is the fall weather. The leaves are changing color and the rainy season has started. I love to prepare comforting meals like this one when the weather turns. I really like cooking with sweet potatoes, I try to sneak them into as many slow cooker recipes as I can. What I loved about this recipe is that the flavors I added for the sweet potatoes are perfect for flavoring the ham as well.
I start with these beautiful ingredients: Black forest ham, sliced sweet potatoes, pineapple rings, pineapple juice, brown sugar and cinnamon.
This slow cooker is a Crock-Pot® 5-in-1 Multi-Cooker, I am really enjoying this slow cooker! I love the rectangular design.
I cook this for 7 hours on low. It is just enough time to get the ham warmed through and the sweet potatoes tender.
I take the ham out and slice it on a cutting board, then I put the ham back in the slow cooker to keep warm.
I made mashed potatoes to go with this, other than that all this meal needed was some soft dinner rolls! My husband loves leftover ham, with this recipe there is plenty.
I hope you try this fall favorite meal. Crock-Pot offers more slow cooker recipes like this one. If you are looking for a new slow cooker you can get 20% off here at the Crock-Pot® Brand website.

Can you make this with a butt portion bone-in? I have 8lbs. Would it taken longer?
Sarah Olson says
7 hours on low should still do it for that sized of ham. Your basically warming the ham, but trying to get the sweet potatoes tender.
Becky says
My ham is pre-cooked (maybe they all are!?). Do I still want to cook it for 7 hours?? I just don’t want it to dry out!
Sarah Olson says
They all are in the US. You’ll have to cook it that long to get the sweet potatoes tender. If you don’t do the sweet potatoes, you can get away with 4-5 hours on low.
Sandi Thomas says
Can I use a spiral ham in this recipe?
Sarah Olson says
Yes! That would work fine.
Vicki says
Awesome recipe. Can also prepare ahead of time. Put everything together as shown, refrigerate in crock overnight, pop on first thing in morning, ready for dinner. Great when cooking a lot of food for a gathering.
WANDA says
Can I put fresh green beans in with it all?
Sarah Olson says
Yes, green beans will work well.
JB says
If I cooked it for 8 hours on low instead, would that work? I don’t have a 7 hour setting. Or I can do 4 or 6 on high.
Thanks
Sarah Olson says
Hi, it should do fine for 8 on low. You can manually turn off your slow cooker at any time if needed too.
Gail says
This was so extremely good. I made it exactly as the recipe says and it was so good and my family loved it. Thank you

The sweet potatoes take some time to get tender 🙂 cook on low.

How many points for weight watchers?

You would be able to figure that out better than I could since I am not on weight watchers.
