This comforting Slow Cooker Wild Rice Chicken Soup is a creamy chicken soup with plenty of vegetables and tender wild rice. It’s a perfect soup for cold weather.

If you’ve ever had a bowl of creamy chicken and wild rice soup, you know it’s pure coziness. This soup is hard to find at restaurants, and it’s never quite the same from a can. I created a foolproof recipe that’s full of flavor and truly a one-pot meal.

Key Ingredients
Wild Rice Mix: I use a package wild rice mix (and the seasoning mix that comes with it!). Wild rice is black and actually a grass, which is why it holds its texture so well in soup.
Chicken: Just need a few chicken breasts, they will shred up perfectly for this.
Vegetables: This soup is packed with veggies; you’ll need carrots, celery, onions, and mushrooms.
Broth: The base of this soup is chicken broth and heavy cream.
Seasonings: Additional seasonings to make the soup pop are oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
How to Make Slow Cooker Chicken Wild Rice Soup
- Build the soup base with chicken, veggies, broth, and the wild rice seasoning packet.
- Add the rice near the end so it cooks up tender (not mushy).
- Shred the chicken, stir in cream, and thin with extra broth if you want it more soupy.

Tips & Variations
Rice Swap: If you can find wild rice on its own (not a mix), it cooks up great in the slow cooker – add during the last hour.
No mushrooms: Leave them out or swap with zucchini.
Chicken Cut: You can use boneless skinless thighs instead of breasts. Also rotisserie chicken meat is fine to use as well.

How to Serve Wild Rice Soup
Toppings: The soup is great as is, but you can top it with Parmesan cheese, freshly ground black pepper, saltine crackers, or croutons for extra flavor and texture.
Sides: We love serving this soup with buttered dinner rolls and a simple green salad.

Why did the soup get so thick?
The rice will keep absorbing the liquid as it sits. You may need to add additional broth (especially for leftovers).
