This Greek chicken turned out great. The chicken can be marinated over night in a ziplock bag with the yogurt marinade or it can be popped directly into the slow cooker the same day. Since the slow cooker heats up slowly, the chicken gets a bit of time to soak up the Greek flavors of the marinade.

The marinade has yogurt, garlic, lemon juice, oregano, parsley and salt and pepper. This recipe has all natural simple ingredients but has so much flavor.

Below is the chicken after cooking in the slow cooker but I also put the chicken under the broiler in the oven to get the skin crispy.

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 4 hours
Total Time: 4 hours 10 minutes
Servings: 4
Drumsticks slow cooked with yogurt, lemon and garlic.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. chicken drumsticks
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • juice of 1 lemon, about 2 tablespoons
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1 tsp. dried parsley
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper

Instructions

  • Add the drumsticks down in the slow cooker. In a small bowl combine the yogurt, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, parsley, salt and pepper.
  • Pour the yogurt mixture over the chicken.
  • Cover and cook on HIGH for 4 hours without opening the lid during the cooking time.
  • After the cooking time is done you may desire to brown the chicken, I do this in the oven under the broiler for about 3 minutes on each side.
  • Serve and enjoy!
  • NOTE- the yogurt mixture and chicken can be put into a Ziploc bag the night before for extra marinating time.

I made this yesterday and holy moly it is soooooo good! I like to have a little bit of liquid in the slow cooker so I put in a mixture of chicken broth and lemon juice, just to fill the base with about an inch of liquid. One of the best chicken recipes I’ve EVER made, will definitely be in my regular rotation going forward!

What can I use if I donโ€™t have yogurt sub with 1 cup of…?

    1. Sarah Olson says:

      Sour cream would work.

Do you have a time for how long on low instead of high?

    1. Sarah Olson says:

I would do 5 hours on low.

  4. Nicole Lee says:

Can you use chicken breast instead of drumsticks?

    1. Sarah Olson says:

      Yes, that should work fine.

    Is this 311 caloriescper serving?

    1. Sarah Olson says:

      Yes

  6. Dyana says:

Can you double the recipe in the same crockpot, 4.5 quart size?

    1. Sarah Olson says:

Hard to say without trying. If you can fit it all in, it will work.

      1. Dyana says:

I was able to fit 13 pieces with enough room on top etc. Set it to 4 hours on high so fingers crossed it cooks.

      2. Sarah Olson says:

It will! Keep the lid on.

I love this recipe! I did two teaspoons of greek seasoning and I added chicken broth to thin out the mixture and cover my meat. Really tasty, would make again!
