Skip the roadside stand—make authentic Slow Cooker Boiled Peanuts right at home, soft and seasoned to perfection.
Nothing says game day like a big bowl of boiled peanuts. They’re the snack everyone grabs between plays, and they disappear fast!
My crockpot boiled peanut recipe produces melt-in-your-mouth, salty peanuts that are great for munching on! You don’t need to watch a pot on the stove, and I think the slow cooker really makes the nuts extra soft, with slow cooking time infusing more flavor.
Key Ingredients
Peanuts – I use raw peanuts for this recipe. See my recipe notes in the recipe card if you want to use green peanuts.
Salt – This is the only seasoning you need for these classic flavored boiled peanuts.
Water – Water for cooking and keeping the peanuts moist.
How to Make Slow Cooker Boiled Peanuts
- Prep the peanuts so they’re clean and ready, then let the slow cooker do all the work.
- After hours of simmering, you’ll have tender, salty peanuts with that classic Southern boiled peanut flavor.
Variations
Cajun Boiled Peanuts – Add 2-3 tablespoons of Cajun seasoning. For extra heat, add two sliced jalapenos or one sliced habanero.
Old Bay – Want great flavor but less heat? Add 2-3 tablespoons of Old Bay Seasoning (the big yellow spice tin) to get a coastal flavor.
Sweet and Salty – Do you like the taste of kettle corn? Reduce the salt to 1/4 and add 1/8 cup of brown sugar.
How to Serve Boiled Peanuts
Serve them warm: Keep the peanuts in their brine, warm in the slow cooker. Have a slotted spoon for guests to remove them from the crockpot.
Chilled Leftovers: Boiled peanuts are still good chilled. And easier to peel and eat.
Should I Soak the Peanuts First?
Soaking is optional before boiling peanuts. If you choose to soak your peanuts overnight, you can cut the cooking time in half. Cooking times will vary, so check for doneness.
How to Store Boiled Peanuts
Store the peanuts in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week or in the freezer for up to three months.
Slow Cooker Boiled Peanuts
Ingredients
- 24 oz. Raw peanuts in shells
- ½ cup sea salt
- 12 cups water, (this is approximate, see below)
Instructions
- Pick through the peanuts and discard any broken shells. Give the peanuts a good wash.
- Place in the slow cooker along with the salt.
- Pour the water so that it covers at least two inches above the peanuts (but don't fill the slow cooker to the brim or it will overflow).
- Cook on high for 5-7 hours. Peanuts should be soft but not mushy. Taste-test a few at the 5 hour mark and if they are crunchy, cook longer.
