Make a big batch of Spanish coffee for a party with my slow cooker Spanish coffee recipe. The flavor is perfect and you will want more than one. This recipe is great when you want a warm drink other than hot cocoa.

Slow Cooker Spanish Coffee is an easy and festive drink that’s perfect for parties or cozy nights at home. It gently warms in the crockpot and is served with a signature caramelized sugar rim, making every cup feel extra special. This recipe is simple to prepare but delivers that bold, rich flavor you expect from a classic Spanish coffee.

Key Ingredients

Ingredients for slow cooker spanish coffee on a table with a crockpot.

This big-batch of Spanish coffee has a rich base made with fresh-brewed coffee and gets a boost of flavor from Kahlua, triple sec syrup, and a splash of dark rum. A little sugar and a lemon or orange slice create the signature caramelized rim on the glass. For an extra special touch, you can finish each cup with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg.

Variations

This recipe is very flexible, you can even add flavoring after the recipe is done cooking.

  • Mocha Twist: Add a splash of chocolate liqueur or stir in cocoa powder.
  • Creamy Version: Add a bit of half-and-half or Irish cream liqueur to the mix.
  • Spiced Up: Add a cinnamon stick or clove while it warms for extra flavor.

How to make Spanish Coffee in the Crockpot

Step One: Add the coffee and alcohol to the crockpot.

Step Two: Cook on Low for 2 hours or until warmed through.

Step Three: If you want the classic garnish for the glass, cut a lemon wedge and swipe all the way around the rim. This must be a tempered glass.

Step Four: Flip the glass over and dip the rim into the sugar.

Step Five: Using a kitchen torch, burn the sugar on the rim of the cup. Do not stay in one spot too long to prevent hot spots.

Step Six: Pour the Spanish coffee into the mugs. Top with whipped cream and enjoy.

Tips for Serving

My tips for serving this warm and cozy drink:

  • Use tempered glass mugs or Irish coffee mugs for safety.
  • Set up a topping bar with whipped cream, cinnamon, nutmeg, and chocolate shavings. I like to leave out cream in case the drink is too strong for guests.
  • Keep it warm on LOW during the party so guests can serve themselves.

Recipe FAQs

Can I make it ahead of time?

Yes! You can mix the ingredients ahead and store them in the fridge, then warm them in the slow cooker before serving.

Can I use espresso instead of coffee?

Absolutely. Just dilute with a bit of hot water if it tastes too strong.

What if I don’t have a torch?

You can skip the caramelized sugar rim or simply use a broiler-safe mug and broil the sugar quickly under high heat (watch very closely!). Or use gold colored sugar for a nice touch.

  • Be sure to use tempered glass and not over heat to create hot spots when burning the sugar. Not moving around enough while heating or using a thin glass can cause the glass to crack.
