Use up any extra peaches and make homemade peach butter! It’s smooth and all you need are three simple ingredients.

This tried-and-true recipe of mine for peach butter is a keeper. It’s a recipe from my cookbook and gets rave reviews! It’s spreadable and great for putting away for the winter. If you have oodles of peaches, try my peach upside down cake or crockpot peach cobbler.

Key Ingredients

Peaches: Use fresh peaches or even ones that are too ripe – it doesn’t matter. Leave the peels on, as we will blend this mixture and cook it well with the peaches; you won’t even know they are there.

Brown Sugar: Since we don’t know how sweet the peaches will be, wait to add the sugar until done cooking.

Cinnamon: This is a must for old fashioned peach butter flavor and makes the house smell amazing.

How to Make Peach Butter in the Slow Cooker

  1. Cut the peaches into pieces and add them to a food processor.
  2. Pour into the crockpot and add the cinnamon.
  3. Cook all day, then add the sugar to taste.

Tips & Variations

More Spice: If you’d like your peach butter to have a more spice flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg, ginger, or cloves along with the cinnamon.

Other Sweeteners: Substitute white sugar, honey, or maple syrup for brown sugar if preferred; add to taste. Stevia or other low-calorie sweeteners can be used, but they will affect the taste and may not be ideal for gift-giving.

Peels off: For a lighter color and slightly different taste, peel the peaches before puréeing them.

Apples: Make Apple Peach Butter by adding a few apples to the batch.

Doubling: You can make this recipe any size you need, it’s very adaptable.

How to Use Peach Butter

Breakfast: Our favorite way to serve crockpot peach butter is to spread it as you would jam! On toast, English muffins, and biscuits. Even great on plain or vanilla yogurt.

Ice Cream Topper: Warm it up and serve on ice cream – nothing is better than peaches and cream!

Savory Dishes: Some like to use the peach butter on Peachy BBQ Ribs, or on grilled chicken.

Fun Appetizers: Ladle it on a brick of cream cheese and serve with crackers.

How to Store Peach Butter

This version of peach butter is best put away in the fridge or freezer. Store in the fridge for up to a week or in the freezer for up to 6 months. Canning recipes typically require more sugar and lemon juice to be added.

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs. peaches, about 9-10 medium peaches, sliced, quartered, and pits removed
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 2-4 Tbsp. brown sugar, to taste, added later

Instructions

  • Slice and quarter the peaches, removing and discarding the pits.
  • Place the peach slices into a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
  • Pour the peach purée into your slow cooker and stir in the cinnamon.
  • Cover with the lid and cook on low heat for 8 hours. Do not open the slow cooker during this time.
  • Once the cooking is done add the brown sugar slowly to taste
  • If the peach butter is too thin, leave the lid off for about 30 minutes to an hour to allow it to thicken.
  • The finished peach butter should have a rich, deep orange-brown color and a smooth, spreadable texture.
  • The peach butter can be blended once more after cooking for ultra smooth peach butter. (optional).

Sarah’s Notes

You may have to blend the peaches in batches, depending on the size of your blender.

Mine did not thicken, what can I do?

    1. Sarah Olson says:

You can cook it longer (in the slow cooker without the lid, or on the stove top). It will thicken in the refrigerator more. This isn’t a recipe that a spoon can stand in, it will be a little loose.
