Recipe Ingredients

ingredients needed to make slow cooker philly cheese steaks on a table.
  • Bottom Round Roast: You’ll want to use a cut that’s at least 3-4 pounds to have plenty of meat for serving crockpot philly cheesesteak sandwiches.
  • Lipton Soup Mix: The beefy onion soup mix has all the flavoring needed to create a tasty meat mixture.
  • White Onion: A medium-sized onion, sliced, adds the perfect taste and texture.
  • Bell Pepper: I recommend using green pepper, although you can also add color by using red bell pepper and/or orange bell pepper.
  • Cooking Oil: For searing the roast before placing it into the crockpot.
  • Seasonings: Salt and pepper to taste, onion powder and minced garlic (or garlic powder) creates an amazing tasting dish.
  • Water: Helps combine seasonings, soup mix, and generate extra moisture so the roast doesn’t dry out during cooking time.

Recipe FAQs

Can I use a different cut of beef?

We love to use a bottom round roast for it is less fatty, though you can use a chuck roast if desired

How do I prevent the meat from drying out?

To ensure that your meat stays juicy and tender, be sure to cook it on low heat and keep the meat in the juices until ready to serve.

Can I freeze leftovers?

Absolutely! Store any leftover meat mixture in an airtight container in the freezer for up to three months. Simply thaw it in the refrigerator overnight and reheat it in the microwave or on the stove when you’re ready to enjoy it again.

What’s the best way to reheat leftovers?

For the best results, reheat the meat mixture in a saucepan on the stove over medium heat until warmed through. You can also microwave it in a microwave-safe dish, stirring occasionally, until heated to your liking.

What is a bottom beef roast? And what roast do you recommend

    1. Sarah Olson says:

Bottom beef roast you’ll be able to find at your store. It’s a less fatty roast. I recommend finding this one, or if you want a fattier version, get a chuck roast.

Can I make 10 pounds of this? How much longer would I need to cook it?
    Ingredient portions?

    1. Sarah Olson says:

Hi Nancy, you will have to have a larger slow cooker, at least a 7-8 (most are 6-quart). You would probably have to cook it for 10-11 on low or 8 hours on high. It will take a long time to cook that much meat and you’ll want to keep the lid on the entire time.
