In a small bowl whisk together the apple juice, maple syrup, cloves, cinnamon and brown sugar.
Add the pears to the slow cooker on their sides. Pour over the juice mixture. Add the cinnamon sticks.
Cook on low for 4 hours, turning the pears at the half way point. If your pears are over ripe you won't have to cook as long.
Serve whole or cut in half with the seeds removed with ice cream or whipped cream. Drizzle over the sauce from the slow cooker.
Notes
Wait until pears cool and then store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Ensure they are submerged in the poaching liquid to maintain their flavor and prevent drying. Reheat gently before serving or enjoy them chilled.
