Place the chicken in the slow cooker and add seasonings.
Add the cans of cream of chicken soup and butter pats.
Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 6 hours.
Shred the chicken with two forks right in the slow cooker. Now add the broccoli and cook for 45 more minutes on HIGH.
While the dish is finishing cooking, cook your rice on the stove top or in a rice maker.
Check the broccoli for doneness, and cook longer if needed. Add the cooked hot rice, HALF of the cheese, and the sour cream to the chicken and sauce.
Stir everything together, and sprinkle over the remaining cheese. Replace the lid until the cheese melts; this will only take about 5 minutes.
For serving add black pepper and green onions if desired.

Notes
Frozen broccoli works well in this recipe; the cooking time remains the same. It’s very important to use freshly cooked long-grain rice. Trust me, if you want an outstanding meal, don’t use precooked packaged rice or Minute rice, and don’t cook the rice in the slow cooker.
