Ingredinets for chicken alfredo on a table.

Key Ingredients

Chicken: I prefer to use boneless, skinless chicken breasts for they because they shred perfectly.

Homemade Alfredo Sauce: Heavy Cream, grated parmesan cheese, minced fresh garlic, dried Italian seasoning, kosher salt, and black pepper.

Pasta: We love using penne pasta in the crockpot chicken alfredo, it has a great bite to it.

How to Make Slow Cooker Chicken Alfredo

  1. Make a homemade alfredo sauce with just a few pantry staples in a bowl.
  2. Add it to the slow cooker with chicken and let the flavors meld slowly.
  3. Once tender, shred the chicken and give everything a good stir.
  4. Toss in hot pasta and finish with a touch of fresh parsley.

Tips & Variations

  • Add Veggies: You can add vegetables the last 45 minutes of cooking time such as broccoli, spinach, or mushrooms.
  • Too Thick? Add milk or broth to thin the Alfredo.
  • Jarred Alfredo – Many of my viewers ask if they can use jarred alfredo instead of the homemade. You can, but the taste won’t be like a restaurant. Add two small jars instead of the homemade sauce.
  • Chicken Swap: You can use any cut of chicken you would like – though adding skin on chicken will dilute your sauce. Also, do not use frozen chicken.

How to serve

  • This meal is great on its own if you don’t have any other sides to offer!
  • Add more Parmesan cheese and a side of garlic bread for the classic flavors.
  • Add a green vegetable such as a green salad, asparagus, or slow cooker brussels sprouts.
  • Serve over broccoli instead of penne for a lower carb meal.

Can I Put Uncooked Pasta in a Slow Cooker?

No, the pasta will not get hot enough fast enough to cook the pasta properly. It tends to turn out chalky and mushy.

How to Video

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs. boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated parmesan cheese, (not shredded parmesan cheese)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp. dried Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. black pepper
  • 8 oz. penne pasta or your preferred pasta, cooked according to package instructions.
  • fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, parmesan cheese, minced garlic, italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
  • Place the chicken breasts in the slow cooker.
  • Pour the alfredo sauce mixture over the chicken in the slow cooker, making sure they are well-coated.
  • Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours until the chicken is cooked through and tender. (I don’t recommend cooking this recipe on high as the cheese will burn in the sauce).
  • Remove the chicken breasts from the slow cooker and shred them using two forks. Return the shredded chicken to the slow cooker and stir it into the alfredo sauce. Stir in the cooked penne pasta.
  • Serve the slow cooker chicken alfredo and garnish with fresh chopped parsley. Enjoy!
