Tender Slow Cooker Baked Apples made easy with granola, melted butter, and maple syrup! Top with ice cream or whipped cream.

If you have plenty of apples make these easy baked apples. If you have even more apples try my apple butter recipe!

This recipe for slow cooker baked apples could be for dessert, or for breakfast; if you can refrain from adding ice cream in the morning! I had originally planned these slow cooker baked apples for breakfast, hence the granola.

When I opened my slow cooker and smelled the aroma of apple crisp, that plan went out the window, so dessert for me it was, for breakfast…

hollowed out gala apples for baked apples

How to make Slow Cooker Baked Apples:

  • Apples – Any variety of apple works, I use medium-sized Gala
  • Granola – The granola is just the perfect crispy topping since the slow cooker can’t brown things.
  • Melted salted butter – Makes the apples extra decadent.
  • Maple syrup – or honey works here too!

  • Cut the tops off the apples with a knife, the gut them with a melon baller, if you don’t have a melon baller, a round measuring teaspoon will do the trick.
  • Add the granola to the center of the apples, drizzle over the melted butter and maple syrup.

How long do I slow cook baked apples?

  • Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on HIGH for 2.5 – 3 hours.

I want my apples extra soft, how long should I cook?

If you want your apples to be extra tender, cook on HIGH for 4 hours.

Can I add cinnamon to these?

Yes! Sprinkle about a half teaspoon of cinnamon over these apples, it will taste great and also make the house smell amazing.

How to serve these apples?

  • Put one apple (or half if they are large) in a bowl.
  • Top with a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream.

Mushy nasty. Lotsa work and not impressed. I didn’t even cook them for 2.5 hours on high. Disappointing.

I made this but not with granola.
Instead I used what I had on hand which was oatmeal & Special K w/Raspberries cereal. I added cinnamon, brown sugar, a little warm water & mixed it thoroughly. I let the mixture sit for a little while but kept mixing to soften it. I then melted butter added it to the muxture. Cored the apples & then decided to squeeze lemon juice into the mixture as well to cut some of the sweetness.
In the rock pot I put some V8 berry fruit juice & water, squeezed a little lemon juice into it. Then I laid the 4 stuffed apples into the pot & melted some more butter drizzled over the apples. Sprinled more oatmeal, brown sugar and cinnamon- covered & cooked for 3 hrs in crockpot delicious!
It is an easy & tasty recipe depending on how you tweak it which can be eaten as a snack, breakfast or dessert 🙂

That’s an entirely new recipe. About the only thing in common with the original recipe are the apples. Maybe next time don’t advertise your new recipe on someone else’s post.

Do you think that you could use oats instead of granola?

You could, but you would want to add flavoring to them 🙂

Nice recipe. Can these be frozen and served later? How would you re-heat them?
      Thank you kindly.

none, the butter is enough moisture for this recipe. And the apples add a lot of moisture too.

My crockpot instructions tells me at least 1 cup of liquid must be put in the crockpot before cooking.

You can add water if you prefer, though I’ve never had a problem.

Quick question about making these for breakfast: did you put the slow cooker on a timer, get up early, or were you able to set it on low for most of the night? My slow cooker doesn’t have a timer so it would be good to know how feasible this would be for me. Thanks!

I got up early 🙂 It would be too long to set them on low. I hope that helps.

You can get a timer at a hardware store (like you use for lights). It’s a bit cumbersome, but it works

I loved this idea and couldn’t wait to try. I didn’t have the Bare Naked Granola, but I had oat and honey granola bars that I just crushed up and added a little cinnamon and sugar to to mixture. Oh my gosh, sooo good. thank you for this idea…

Those look delicious! I would be like you — once I smelled them there would be mo waiting until the next day! And there is nothing wrong with a little ice cream for breakfast — it is dairy!
