About me

Sarah Olson - Head Shot holding slow cooker

Welcome to The Magical Slow Cooker where I share all my favorite slow cooker recipes. I started this recipe site in January 2013. The first recipes that inspired this website are Slow Cooker Baby Back Ribs and Slow Cooker Baked Potato Soup.

I really can’t explain what made me start this blog. I do remember realizing that the only thing that would make me jump out of bed were the days I had a new slow cooker meal planned.

Previously, I was a mail carrier for ten years! That job was and the main reason I needed slow cooker meals! But I am now working on recipe development full time for my love for slow cooking is still here even though I don’t work away from home anymore.

Sarah Olson Head Shot - The Magial Slow Cooker

I live in the Willamette Valley in Oregon with my husband and 10-year-old daughter. I make about 3 or 4 slow cooker meals a week, the other days we either dine out or I make meals that are super easy to put together.

I have another recipe website that has everything I make that is not made in the slow cooker, that site is called Vintage Recipe Tin. The Vintage Recipe Tin has recipes from retro cookbooks and handwritten recipe cards. My top recipes there are Butterfinger Cookies and Bisquick Cheddar Garlic Biscuits.

I am a 5o+ mom and gramdma who use my crockpot all the time especially during the cold winters of Michigan. I have 2 sizes of crock pots one is just a little one for just my husband and me, and a larger one 6 quart capacity for certain recipes. I love my crock pots!!!!!!

I have to admit, I have owned a slow cooker for years, but never ever used it. Today I found your slow cooker buffalo wings recipe and I now will have to finally take my cooker out of the cupboard, dust it off and try the recipe…I also found your skinny buffalo chicken wrap that I will have to try. I love anyting buffalo flavored!! Great blog!

    Hi,
I live in the UK and care for my mum, she has dementia. So the slow cooker is my friend.
It is great to find all these recipes as I am always looking for something new. With mums stroke and her dementia her tastes have changed. Things she liked before she doesn’t now and vice a versa. So any help I can get is great.
    Thank you so much.

I found your site on a search. It is now bookmarked! Thank you so much! I have two small children and cooking dinner is always an adventure. I grew up with my mother cooking many meals with the slow cooker. She passed away while I was young. After getting married and having children I would often say, ” I wish there was a book or somewhere to find EASY slow cooker meal ideas. My mom always had such good meals for me. How did she do it?” So, when I found your blog I was so happy!
    THANK YOU!!!!!

Will be looking into your site, as I like the crock pot as well. As you know, every brand tastes a bit different. When I lived in Oregon, I found that the best tasting jalapenos I could find were the Herdez brand, and the best enchilada sauce (for my taste and flavors) was the Las Palmas brand. The hottest I could ever find was Medium, but it was tasty and I could always add heat in other ways. Found everything at Winco Foods.
I really love the El Pato as well, but at the time, it only came in the small cans.

I shop at Winco, they always have a great selection. I’ll have to try the Herdez brand jalapeños. Thanks for stopping by Dave!

Wow…Great job Sarah! I just finished your Fails of the last year and I am still laughing!!! Especially funny when I saw that your man still ate some of these disasters…a couple of things came to mind…First, your husband must be from the GNW (Great Northwest) and I am not the only person who fails with my crock pot!! I live in Italy and enjoy cooking and entertain frequently. For my style of informal gatherings…the crock pot is a wonderment! I will keep tuned to your site and add recipes to my repitoir. Keep on blogging….you ROCK! Cheers! Regards….Rich

I’m hoping you’re joking, but I will tell you my husband (of 56yrs) does ALL the cooking. He retired before I did, but before I went to work I did it all for our family of six. I guess he figures it’s his turn now and honestly – he’s a better cook!
